View Full Version : Brand new car, lower or no?
Hey all,
I have a 2013 Mazda 3 and just found a good deal from a friend for Tein S Techs. I've never had a car before and definitely never had a lowered car before - thoughts on if I should do it or not?
Concerns:
Being able to have a car full of people
Wear and tear on stock struts and etc.
Void my warranty
Anyone have thoughts? Pics with second gens lowered on S Techs?
Should I play it safe and wait for some Pro Kits?

1.Full people on s techs are fine
2. Stock shocks n struts will eventually give up on aftermarket lowering springs in a long period of time.
3. Lots of discussion about warranty....simple.... if your concern about that..then don't mod your car..
4.Search..... members ride thread....so on....
5. Play it safe? Like no rubbing n so on....?...anything is safe depends on the wheels your running...wider wheels needs fender roll, camber kit...so so so so so on......

I am also lowering my car for the first time. I went with pro kits due to the subtle but noticeable drop. When it comes in the mail and I get it installed I shall present you with pictures...

Only full people are fine? How about people on empty stomachs?
You'll probably void whatever you mod. So if you mod your springs tis may affect your suspension warranty but other things won't probably be affected.
Go with prokits and koni yellows if you want to lower.

Tein tends to sag, meaning they will drop lower than its original spec after a while. You're also looking at a 1.5" drop..You probably want to change to Koni Yellows for that. Stock shocks aren't ideal.
As for a car full of people...well...it depends on how fat they are...
For the price of springs and shocks, you might as well go with coilovers.

Long term you will see a lot more wear and tear on shocks, CV joints, steering rack and wheel bearings and of course these components probably will not be covered by a warranty if they fail during its coverage period.
Term "If you wanna play, you gotta pay" fully applies whenever you decide to mod a car and be prepared to deal with extra cost of that. If you don't mind the extra cost and will not keep the car long term, mod away.
On the other hand if you want to keep this car for 10 years and couple hundred thousand kilometres, I would keep things stock as much as possible.

I am not lowered yet. I am looking for some decent 18s possibly just to fill some gap. I dont like hearing scraping going over speed bumps in malls and such.
IF i had bought new I wouldnt lower until atleast 50,000. Some car parts are just bad from the get go so why not wait and see if you got a lemon or something to that idea? Also if I may add. I was just in a accident recently. If my car was lower or higher than what it is my car would ha e been written off. This accident involved a mail/parcel truck with that big steel bumper. Im pretty happy I havnt dropped yet due to that. You have a hatch. Get some rally armours and some skirts and be happy. Dont rush to mod!
Enjoy your new ride buddy.

Bigger wheels don't fill the gap once you factor in the smaller sidewall height.
