View Full Version : Strut bar worth it?
Is a strut bar really worth it on our cars. I've heard people say it won't make any different as our cars are already quite beefy around firewall and strut tower area.
Also. Was wondering if there's anyone that makes a strut bar that also ties strut towers into the firewall?? The 3 point strut bar?

No, it doesn't make much of a difference.
No, I do not know of a 3 point.

FWD rear sway bar makes the big diffrence.
RWD fsb makes the big diffrence.
Or do both. Start with rear tho.
Actually just picked up a speed rear bar. Gonna put it on soon. Doing springs(cobb), stuts(hopefully Koni), all new links(ordered speed ones for rear), and strut bearings.
Should be fun.
I do it all myself

the cheap stuff won't make a difference... the expensive ones DO make a difference
the autoexe in my car made the car handle better and more responsive steering

I have the Mazdaspeed JDM FSB installed and I didn't feel much of a difference.

I have the corksport FStrutB, first bolt on before installing RSB 2 weeks later. Maybe just me, but noticed higher limit when pushing the apex on highway on ramps. Either that or confidence was boosted and felt more daring with new mod under the hood. Placebo effect is worth the purchase :p
To add: Not much difference felt at single low speed turns, more noticeable I suppose with slalom runs, figure 8, lateral accel. tests or auto cross. I personally think it's a perfect companion piece with a RSB for a synergistic effect.

1) Do you think you'll actually use any improvement it might provide on a daily basis? That to me is the real litmus test of "if it's worth it". Likely your honest to self answer is no.
2) Do you think you'll actually be able to tell any difference without taking the car to the limit (see above). Again I think you know the answer if you are not a seasoned track racer and if you were you wouldn't have to ask
As for sway bars..
1) There's danger in just randomly putting stiffer sway bars in any car. You could make the car a handful to handle. And the benefits aren't always there because roll stiffness in relation to handling isn't a steady state thing.

maybe you didn't drive the car hard enough?
I drove the car for more than a year before I got the autoexe cheap by chance... since it is a daily driver, most of the places I took the car really fast around the bends were part of the route... I always drove it 9/10ths, so being close to the limit, I knew what the car was capable of bone stock... after the strut bar, I was able to corner even harder, and turn in became much quicker, and steering was more responsive... all of this while the car was still on the stock tires
no, it wasn't in my head

I have corksport front and rear strut bars(hatch). I installed the from strut bar drive for awhile then installed the rear to feel the difference. The front strut bar I noticed really only on highway ramps pushing the car hard. The rear strut bar was way more noticeable. If for anything else when I get an oil change the guys always ask me about it.
