Hey now!

Looks like I got this forum up and running. Have a look around, post some discussion topics and check back regularly. The Mazda3 is popping up all over the GTA and there is a lot of excitement around it. Enjoy your stay.

I guess this makes me the second to post something.

I\'m three!

Friend of mine pointed this out. I\'m not a huge car guy, but I\'m enjoying my Mazda 3. Tell me something, the stock lights in this thing are crappy right? Even though it says the lows are Xieon, they don\'t look too white.

You\'ll learn quick that I\'m a n00b about these things.

Welcome swordfish....

No worries, this is what the forum is for... I\'m sure you\'ll learn a lot once more people start posting up in here.

The lights are rather weak... The lights are pretty much regular halogens. The really white ones are the HIDs (High Intensity Discharge) that you see on mostly high end cars like BMWs, Benz, Lexus, etc. A set of HIDs go for about $700 - $1000.

Let me ask you something else. What did you get with your car, other than the car itself and it\'s keys?

My dealer was pretty sloppy with everything, and I\'ve had to go back a couple of times to get different things done... IE fill the coolant, and get the wheel lock-nuts they left off.

Anyway, I\'m worried I\'m missing out on something... no matter how small it was, what did you get? Thanks!

What dealer did you go to? I bought mine at Erin Mills Mazda. I will be sure to check that everything is in tip top condition before I leave the lot.

Xenon and sw0rdfish, good to see you guys here too!

When I came to pick up my 3 the Business Manager (Dave at Avante Mazda of Toronto) went over every single item on the car. He showed me how to check the windshield washer fluid (you have to plug the hole in the cap first before pulling out the dipstick), he showed me what the little round plug on the front bumper was for (a tow hook) and how to disable the locks on the rear doors. Some Business Managers don\'t take the time in doing this, they just hand you the keys, show you where the controls are and how to adjust your seats and let you go. It just shows how willing some dealerships are to go that extra mile for their customers. With Avante, everytime you go in for service they will wash the car and top up the windshield washer fluid for you, free of charge.

Soon after delivery, or maybe even the day of, you will get some touch-up paint for free from the dealer (I did).

Mazda Canada has told their dealers to start putting the \"2.3\" emblem on the forward edge of the front door of all the cars that they sell. If you dealer hasn\'t done so they probably haven\'t received their shipment of emblems but will/should install them the first time you come in for service. I took mine in for service (installation of front and rear aero flares) and I asked them not to install the emblems but rather just give them to me because I was going to put them on myself. They did, but I won\'t be putting them on at all.

Sw0rdfish, it looks like they didn\'t do a PDI on your vehicle at all. You didn\'t happen to buy a lot car did you?

The stock headlights are OK. They\'re yellow-ish but what can you expect from a sub $35,000 car. I changed out the bulbs to a set of Hoen Xenonmatch bulbs (H7) for the headlights and (H11) Titanium bulbs for the fogs. The light they cast is much whiter than stock, but some have said that the whiter light doesn\'t throw its light as far as the stock bulbs due to the blue coating on the bulbs. You can get a true HID conversion kit but they are much more expensive than replacement bulbs and their installation is labour intensive. If you do get a set of bulbs, don\'t pay more than $100 for a pair, they aren\'t worth it. I\'m talking mainly the PIAAs that you can get a several tuner stores in Toronto; I paid $100 for the set of 4 Hoens.

Hey bluntman!! What\'s going on?

Xenon

Bluntman:

Forward edge? As in on the door side toward the engine? I\'ve heard of some dealers (in the States) that install them under the side turning marker.... You are talking about the ones on the door though right? Like the ones in the Brochure?

There\'s a template inside the packaging of the emblem showing you where to put the emblem (above the body molding).

Xenon

OK, that\'s probably the normal place to put it.

I would do it myeslf, but I\'m afraid that I\'ll put them in crooked or something :p

Before I bought my Axela badge I was thinking of putting the \"2.3\" emblem on the hatch (will also work for a sedan) on the right side \"blank area\". To be a little more creative, you can pick up a Grand AM\'s \"GT\" badge from your friendly local GM dealer and stick that on as well. That is if you bought a GT level Mazda 3.

I want the 2.3 badge because that is what comes with the car. I\'m not a fan of taking badges from other cars and putting them on though. Just like those people who own a Plymouth van... and put Chrysler logos on every possible corner haha.

but the 2.3 badge on the door is good enough for me.

Ok, let me be the arse to bump it for 2006!

Actually, this thread helped me out. It was the last thread on the list when I was of course being a good forum member and searching first.

Only today did I notice the little round plug on the front of my bumber, and was like wtf is this?

I now see it\'s for a tow hook according to the above post.

Hey you guys should be proud. There are so many forums out there, and most fail. But you guys have managed to create what looks like a good close-nit group of friends and enthusiasts, and have definitely helped me out, and I\'ve only been here a week.

I moderate on a weight lifting website, so I know there can be tons of challenges. We have thousands of members, with tens of thousands of posts. I can\'t even fathom the number of times *I* have had to tell people to UTFS. :D

Anyway, I guess this is my official, \"thank you\" post. :)

Everyone used to say HIDs were close to $1000 and impossible to install.
who\'da thunk it would be a day\'s pay and a cinch to install!
