Heard this on CP24 this morning:
http://www.cp24.com/news/two-dead-in-head-on-crash-near-pickering-1.1464511
It's always sad news to hear about any fatalities. But when I first saw that it was a Speed3 involved, I automatically thought TM3. I feel sorry for those involved regardless, but I hope it wasn't anyone from here.
(It doesn't say Speed3 in the article, but watching the report on TV, the officer said it appears to be a Mazdaspeed3)

I heard this to.
Fatalities are horrible. But keeping my fingers crossed it wasn't someone from the club.

Looking at the picture, you can see that the rims look like its from a regular 3.
Can't expect too much once you're driving in opposite lanes.. :(
Seemingly another fatal accident that didn't need to happen at all.

Two people are dead after a head-on collision near Pickering early Saturday morning.
Police say an SUV was travelling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 when it clipped another vehicle near Harwood Avenue in Ajax at around 2:30 a.m.
The vehicle then continued win the wrong direction until it collided head-on with a red Mazda near Brock Road a short time later, police say. A third vehicle then rear-ended the red Mazda.
The 25-year-old driver of the SUV and the 33-year-old driver of the Mazda were pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Durham police say they received several 911 calls about the wrong-way vehicle and were attempting to intercept it at the time of the crash.
It is not immediately clear how the vehicle ended up travelling in the wrong direction in the first place.
“The witnesses called in saying there was a vehicle travelling obviously in the wrong direction on a controlled access highway and officers from the Whitby detachment immediately responded to try to intercept the vehicle but unfortunately we got there too late,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CP24 Saturday morning. “The investigation is still very early on. We are still trying to notify the families and get the information that we need.”
Only one lane of eastbound traffic is getting by on Highway 401 at Brock Road as police investigate.

Sadly enough - I'm certain that alcohol was probably a factor in this case.
Even more sad is that in this day and age - people are still getting behind the wheel intoxicated.

That's what I was thinking too.
The pics and videos on TV showed a speed3 spoiler and speed3 badge. So unless it's a regular 3 with aftermarket spoiler and badges?!?!?!
Maybe they got their winters on early

Im guessing no TM3 plates then? Condolences to the family though. Horrible accident. Reminds us that we aren't as invincible as we think we are, life is such a fragile thing.
Edit: They probably took the plates off didn't they (haven't seen the pictures) but it would make sense so that the family doesn't see it before they get notified

Wow this is unreal. Lets be sure to remember that driving is a privilage, and if alcohol was a factor I hope that the place he was comming from is shut down.

Just saw it on the news... they showed the back of the car with the back plates covered. Not sure if it was a TM3 member =/

It's sad when stuff like this happens. It can happen at any time to anyone. Be safe out there my Mazda brethren.

If that's true, wonder what would happen for those of us with aftermarket mounts...

i hope it wasnt anyone from tm3. i have to think the guy travelling in the wrong direction knew what he was doing. supposedly he clipped another car before the crash, and there were several 911 calls. he had to have known he was going the wrong way if he was sober enough to drive that point.

The guy was proablly drunk and didn't know what he was doing.... This happened in Belleville last year... I 23 girl was drunk and jumped on 401 the wrong way and went head on and both died.

Oh man that's horrible...
I see people in the wrong lane in montreal all the time. In fact, just yesterday I turned onto a 2 lane country road going around a blind corner and the guy who was in front was in the wrong lane... luckily he was "paying attention" and when someone came flying around the corner at 60km/hr he swerved out of the way avoiding a head-on by about a meter.
Last week, I was coming off the highway waiting to turn left onto a split median road that goes to my house. On the inside lane was some chinese lady... she turned too much and ended up on the wrong side of the concrete median going over the bridge lol.... I was on the other side of the median watching her weave in and out of traffic on the other side and then try to do a ~10pt turn in the middle of the road *facepalm*

Really sad to read about this! I get a bit of a shiver up my spine because I go to Ajax on a weekly basis to see a couple of friends of mine. You never know when it's your turn.

Try a collision with a combined speed of 200 km/h....
I find that in drunk driving cases, it is always the OTHER party who gets the worst of it. In this case, the DUI jerk dies too but my heart goes out to the family of the Mazda driver. For all we know, the Mazda driver was just returning home to his family, sober and everything....
