View Full Version : My Shed Build

As some of you already know, I have been rather busy building a shed...started near the end of august and am basically done now. Just a few odds and ends to finish off still such as skirting around the bottom, a ramp, and eventually something a little nicer for the soffit area (won't do soffit until next year though). It's an 8x10 with 8' tall walls, not from a kit or plans...just designed and built myself (with a bit of help from my gf and my dad).

My old little 6x6 resin shed:

Dug out the larger new site:

Gravel drainage base for underneath:

Used the car and trailer to pick up everything:

Roughly laid out the floor frame:

Built frame, 2x6 pressure treated on 16 centers:

https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1231664_633322391583_912166036_n.jpg
Sheeted the floor with 3/4" plywood:

Tow rig again, it did surprisingly well for stuff like this:

Built some doors:

looks good man. building sheds is fun stuff. I would have blocked the ridge though

Blocked the ridge? You mean use a ridge beam? Or do you mean putting some 2x4 blocking between each of the rafters along the ridge?

The Wolf

well you made trusses so a ridge beam is a no-go, but yeah i would have put 14.5" blocks between each truss along the ridge to support the plywood

Could still throw some in from underneath I suppose, wouldn't be able to screw down but could at least use some construction adhesive to bond it together...there's no flex at all in the plywood at the top though, I was up walking around on the roof while doing shingles and felt as solid as the floor.

yeah as long as the plywood is on the right way it's probably overkill on a roof that size anyway :)

awesome job!

the shed we built at my parents house like 10 years is very similar. Cheaper, better built than those overpriced wood shed 'kits' at HD that use chipboard and 2x3's.

i need to one day build a shed at my place too.

Nice work! Looks solid!

Do you find it dark inside though?
I built an 8x10 wooden shed 15-20 years ago with my dad and he was adamant on putting a window and a skylight because it would be so dark inside.

Put lights in it.... That's what my dad did to his shed 20 years ago when he put up his shed and my brother has lights to his shed.

With the direction it's facing (west) and the size of the doors it has yet to feel dark inside. I will add a solar light (with a remote panel) if it starts to feel dim inside.

You need to learn from the master shed builder.

Mine's just at the point of the base being laid out. It is 8x10 though. I also have the concrete blocks for holding the frame :D Next year is going to be the big build.

It's a Curt 11383 that I ordered from Canadian Hitches and installed myself.
