Hey guys, searched briefly but didn't find a topic about this... so who else is angry that google is forcing us to use google+ pages to use youtube?
First they made Google+ optional. It failed. Then they bundled it with your gmail account with the option to delete the page. Still failed. Then they forced anyone reviewing things on google maps to use it. People stopped reviewing things on google maps and went to other websites.
A couple months ago I kept getting nag screens on youtube asking me to link my gmail account (all my personal information) to youtube. At the time you could just ignore those and keep using Youtube normally. As of today I noticed that now I can't do anything without being forced to link my account to Google+. Right now it lets you keep your screen name and create an empty google+ account with that.... no big deal right?

Well I was thinking about this and realized that they're not going to stop until they have forced their entire userbase to use Google+. For now, people that don't care about comments and just use youtube to watch videos, no problem, and these people don't care about the changes that are happening. However, just wait until youtube starts forcing users to log in to google+ to view videos. They're making these changes one step at a time so not everyone complains at the same time and they can slip the changes by without too much backlash.

A lot of people seem to be indifferent that google is trying to remove anonymity from all of their users. Do you really want your name/address/phone number etc shared with everyone on the internet, and linked to everything you do? Since a lot of people might not understand why it is important to be anonymous because we're in Canada and in general you aren't penalized for your religious or political views. Let me use an extreme example that you might be able to relate to. Imagine that Youtube was your favorite porn website, and suddenly they changed their service so everyone could see which videos you viewed. That might be kinda embarrassing for some, right?

Petition: https://www.change.org/petitions/google-change-the-youtube-comment-section-back-to-its-original-form

Google is forcing us to make google+ accounts and invading our social life to comment on a youtube video and trying to take away our anonymous profile. They are also trying to censor us unless we share the same worldview as they do.

New information has been brought to me by one of the supporters of this petition that their account was suspended by google for telling people about this petition. Just another reason to sign this petition.

If you want to spread this petition around Youtube, make sure to do it on a separate account because others have told me people have been suspended for sharing this petition with others.

Maybe I'm just crazy/paranoid but I'd like to hear what you guys think.

I see two sides of the argument. There will be a lot less garbage in the comments, because we all know what kind of unmoderated shtshow the comments can and usually will be. Curving down racism, bigotry and overall making it so that users aren't afraid of being attacked in the comments.

On the other hand, there is the anonymity and that should concern everyone.

I have no problems with it at the time being, YouTube is not a public service. If it gets to the point where you have to connect G+, then I'll stop using YT or use it without logging in.

Well there is still nothing stopping people from creating fake accounts and spamming (or hating, or doing whatever they want to do), so I don't really agree with that. They used that as an excuse for doing it, but I don't buy it for a second.
