I get my oil changes done in the States (since I switched to synthetic 3 years ago) and will be making another trip with in the next few weeks. I've been using Mobil 1 5W20 Extended performance for the last 50K but been thinking of trying to 0W20. I know that Skyactive models use that oil and heard that it's better in cold weather start ups. But are there any issues with using it in early models (mine's an '05)?

No problem at all. I use 0w20 all year round in my 05 also. You may hear some more engine noise on start up on a warm day from oil being thinner than 5w, as some people have claimed. I never noticed it, but its not a problem and won't hurt anything in your engine. Its just a coz its thinner when cold and doesn't dampen engine noise as 5w oil does.

On plus side, your engine will warm up sooner and give slightly better mileage.

Ok I'll go with that 0W20 Mobil 1 next oil change, if I don't like it I'll switch back to what I used before.

UPDATE*******

Had the oil changed today when I was in the States; switched to Mobil1 0W20 after 50K of using 5W20 Mobil1 Extended Performance and noticed some rough idle that I haven't really noticed before while waiting to cross the border. The car would idle at 500RPM like it normally does when it's warmed up, than I could head the engine getting louder and the RPM slowly rise to 750 stay there for a little bit than go down to 500RPM and get quite again, the cycle would pretty much repeat itself.

Could it be the change of 'diet' to something the car is not used to? or is there some other issue that perhaps was there before? :(

did you have your defrost, or ac on. mine does that when its at idle and the ac compressor is cycling on and off

Pretty sure I didn't; Sunday wasn't cold enough for a defroster or warm enough for AC. I didn't notice it today but I only made four 3km trips...I'll keep an eye on it.

Thinking back to when I bought the car I had the same issue in Feb 09 with in a week the engine light came on (only time I've seen one in my car). After I took it back to the dealer they replaced a 3 ft rubber hose I remember mechanic saying it was some emission part, now I think it was solenoid purge related part. I have a feeling it's the same thing.
