Interesting GlobeAndMail Drive article by Yoko Kubota says Mazda aims to increase gas engine efficiency from 20 to 50 percent. And this is a big challenge.
Mazda seems to prefer the road less travelled while the bigger car makers, like Honda, can afford to design complex hybrids just for goverment approvals, not necessarily for sales.
Mazda makes $1500 more on a SkyActiv car than one without.
But Mazda is not totally ignoring hybrids. It is combining SkyActiv with Toyota hybrid tech for some cars.
Diesel was not mentioned this time.
