Hey everyone
I am buying a new 2014 Mazda3. Do i really need a remote engine starter for Torontos weather? How many of you have remote engine starter? I am moving from alberta and its necessary here. What is the purpose of the scuff plates sold at the dealership? Are they just for the looks? Also is there any disadvantage to getting alloy pedal set? I am getting an automatic so thats why i was thinking of getting alloy pedal set specially for the dead pedal. How about wheel locks? I just need your guys opinion on these accessories before i request the dealer to "throw them in" or reduce the price for these. I am getting mud flaps and cargo tray for sure. And weathertech floor liners.
Thanks Looking forward to replies.

I have a remote starter. I would highly recommend it even for Toronto weather. Those who don't get it from dealer eventually get it aftermarket. Better to save yourself from a warranty headache and get it at a dealer. As per the rest, the weathertechs negate the need for dead metal plate. Metal peddle set is a personal preference if you want it. Scuff plates you can buy identical ones from eBay. Mud flaps and cargo tray is good! I suggest you try to get a clear 3M hood liner as part of the deal instead of scuff plates and peddle set.

+1 I just bought a 2013 and I'm kicking myself for going with mud flaps instead of the 3M liner, mud flaps are awesome but cost less aftermarket opposed to the 3M. If you can get the dealer to give you both I'd try swinging that.

I would leave off the scuff plates as the previous poster said you can get them cheaper off ebay or different ones from the vendors. If your getting the weathertech floor mats I would not get the alloy pedals just for the dead pedal as the mats would cover it up. Mud flaps you can always pick up and install yourself

I had the dealer do the 3m clear bra on my 2009.

Wheel locks do:
Get lost
Break/wear out
look odd

Wheel locks don't:
stop thieves from stealing your wheels

Take the weathertech. Worth it.

Im still curious where that front/side splitter set went that they were talking about pre-production. There was also banter about offering Rays/Volk wheels as options straight from the factory but I don't see that either :loki2

Why do you say that? They certainly are a deterrent. And so is the tiny Mazda lug wrench. I could not remove wheels until I got a 3-way wrench with twice the leverage.

wheel locks don't stop thieves from stealing your rims. it just slows them down a bit. don't think for a second that if you got a set of wheel locks, you'll be safe from thieves. if they want it, they'll get it, one way or another.

They're a minor deterrent, but any 'pro' wheel thief can get them off. We remove multiple sets of wheel locks in my shop every week. Takes a little extra time with a nut remover you can buy at Canadian Tire. And the 'little extra time" is mostly because we care about not ruining the customer's wheels and studs.

At best, you can hope that your wheels get passed over because the car next to you has no wheel locks.

And to top it all off, the market for new OEM mazda 3 wheels is not strong (compared to certain Honda wheels, or aftermarket wheels) so there was maybe a 1 in 100 chance of your wheels ever being stolen in the first place.
