View Full Version : How do I LIE to my supervisor to get time off work?

Nino
12-16-2013, 12:43 PM
Thats right. I need to lie to my supervisor and I need your help.

I don't want to work the 25th. They won't give me the day off and no one will switch.

Ive spent every Christmas with my family. Not willing to work it.

I can't call in sick. How do I get it off?

Don't get in TOO deep, depending how close you are with your coworkers- faking a death could become a much bigger lie then intended.

Nino

Damn.. I used to play the dead grandparent excuse when I was 15. I think my grandpa died about 18 times.

Wont pull that card out of respect though.

How about stomach flu/diarrhea?

What kind of work do you do?

I thought most people had the 25th off.

Only thing I can think of is talking to your supervisor and ask to work a half day, or work from home (if possible)?

FoXy

Are you entitled to take time off? Could you not have booked it off previously? Pretty sure they can't force you to work a stat holiday. But then again, I dont know what you do.

If my work told me they wanted me to work xmas I would flat out say not a chance. If they said I had to I would still say no, and that they can fire me. IF they did fire me, I'd get a lawyer. But then again, my company wouldn't do that, we are closed over xmas thats how much we like it lol

If you need to lie at work, time to find a new job

IF you take a job that has operational hours on stat holidays, overnights and weekends then you should expect to have to work some / all of them. If you simply do not want to then as others have said it's time to find a new job. This is the kind of stuff that drives me crazy, I manage 18 people who all agree to be available for weekends, nights, stat days etc. and verbally agree to it during an interview and hiring and then sign off on it when they start.

Then when the time actually comes if they haven't been able to book the time off because they were too late putting in for the time off and someone else booked it off they pull this type of BS and lie saying they have an emergency or are sick and can't work.

Doesn't happen all the time and it's not all the team but there are some usual and repeat offenders.

Let me give you some advice here - if you lie about it your boss will know. IF they are anything at all like me they will do everything they can to ensure they catch you in this lie and fire your ass when they do.

Your personal integrity is something that so many people understimate the value of.......for me if I can't trust people why the hell would I want them working for me? You would gain so much by letting your boss know you really wanted it off and are making the scarifice to work this year in hopes you can get it off next year.

Or do yourself and your boss a favour and quit now so they can fill the shift.

Pure awesomness...........busted.

I once 'caught' a doctors note that the date had been changed on by an employee. I called them at home to come in for a meeting to discuss an 'issue with their medical documentation' and had to leave a message as they didn't answer. After them dodging my calls and refusing registered mail for a week I left a new message at their place telling them their employment contract had been terminated.

What do you know, they called me back 2 mintues later - begging for another chance.

I let the call go to voicemail and never called them back.

Karma's a byitch ain't it?

Don't post where you work here. This way they wont link it back to you. Usually retail places like walmart, bestbuy etc ask employees to work on 25th to set things up for boxing day and they need extra guys to set everything up.

Best advice I would give is go into work and ask your friend to call your manager like 1hr into your shift that some emergency has come and you need to come asap. Emergency reason could be allergy attach from eating peanuts or something not too serious but you need to be thr to take him to emergency room type.
Or do a no call no show and say you got drunk and forgot to come in.

... and then someone else has to pull OT to cover their absence. Good luck with your coworkers when the first thing they say the next time you show your face is, "Yay, thanks a lot, I was looking forward to spending at least some of my time with family on Christmas Day, but because you bailed I couldn't".

Yes that is the best I can do, lol. Too anyone who need a sarcasm board to understand sarcasm like rajin929, the second reason was sarcasm. You will get fired for it. Use your head. And the first method actually happened at my work where employee actually had an emergency for a friend and we had to let him leave to attend to that. But that said, you have to be in good books with your boss for any reason to float.

I would easily write you up as a supervisor if you had tried to book it off, was declined and called in absent. Man up and work it. The fact that you have to ask how to lie to a group of people you hardly know online shows a lack of maturity. If you don't like it, quit and find a company that is closed on Christmas day.

Look on the bright side, you get paid time and a half plus it shouldn't be too busy depending on what line of work your in.

imo, you had to have known your company operates on Christmas ahead of this. Therefore you should have booked it off in as far advance as possible. Just keep trying to trade and find someone who doesn't celebrate xmas. Otherwise you should work it.

ZeroChalk
12-16-2013, 04:53 PM
Pretty much echo most of the other comments and just accept you have to work Christmas (it's part of the whole growing up and being responsible). On the flip side you can just send an email that your sick and leave it at that. Your supervisor won't believe any excuse you can possibly can come up with so why waste more time?

Im scheduled the 24th,25th,26th, 28th (my birthday). 31st night shift and 1st.

If I really want to I can get a doctor to write me a fake note for 20 bucks but thats not necessary.

Why are some people mad here? My boss will NEVER see this post. Im not worried.

I own everyone where I work because im damn good. My supervisor is my little bitch. I keep it real and straight up. When that doesn't work ill lie my way out.

You gotta do what you gotta do.

I love my family and ill do what it takes to be with them on Christmas just like the past 24 years.

I aint quitting because I love money. I like the cash of 2 full time jobs. I worked damn hard to obtain these two jobs. I work hard enough both places to get the time off. They only want me those days because im good.

Paid time for the stat holiday plus being paid time and half for working that day.

Which is different than just working a Saturday. Technically you're only really getting the time and half extra since the stat holidays are built into your salary anyway

Its when you get paid double your normal hourly rate. PLUS another half of what you make hourly. So if you make $12 an hour, you'll get $24 PLUS another $6, so $30 an hour ;)

There are 4 people here at a time that watch movies/sleep/wander around. I dont care what they do but im the only person on my shift that does work without slacking off. When something happens im cool and calm. I can peoblem solve and talk like no one else. I look after all my coworkers.

Even my supervisor panics and runs around leaving a trail of curry scent everywhere.

Im labled as a "strong" worker which is why I get booked so much. Im practically the night supervisor without the title.

I work at Kia for my real day job.

I dont need the double time pay. Im not strapped for cash. I budget well.

I thought your supervisor was your bitch and you own everyone at work?
If so, why did you get denied time off with 5 weeks notice?
Why did you get scheduled for all the bitch shifts?
And why do you have to find a way to lie to him?

If he is truly your bitch, say "I'm not coming in so you might as well find a replacement for that day.

Sounds to me like your supervisor owns you, and someone is his bitch.

On another note, I worked in a highly multicultural warehouse once and the world cup finals only 11 of 50 of the warehouse staff came to work, the others called in sick lol.

When I was 18 I had a job in a kitchen. I had been there 1 year trained over a half dozen employees and recently got a promotion. I asked my boss for a day off the day he made the schedule and he said no it was made (not posted mind you) and I needed to find someone to take it. I couldn't find someone to work it and I had a trip booked to Montreal that left that afternoon so I called in sick.

I was fired with no prior write ups or anything of the sort. Got back from my trip and I was told they didn't need people like me working there.

While I wasn't really shook up about it or anything (and was able to get some pay for wrongful dismissal) it was a good lesson on how NOT to get a day off when you've already been rejected.

Yeah, the "curry scent" comment definitely rubbed me the wrong way.

I echo everyone else's sentiments. If you're "so damn good that your boss is your little b*tch", you shouldn't have this issue. However, you do have this issue. It's time to face a reality check that maybe he's grinning at you for a reason. Maybe your attitude is so crappy around the workplace that making you work the holidays is his way of getting back at you for your piss-poor behaviour all year.

Now, I may be wrong about all this because I don't know you. Hell, none of us really know you - your attitude throughout this thread just screams that you're being a bitch about all this.

Since your job is one where you may have to work stat holidays, a "request" for time off is just that, a request. It has been denied. Either you appeal it to the appropriate supervisor, or you suck it up. I recommend the latter.

I actually enjoy every minute of working. Either I'm at my desk in my home office, or I'm out and about road testing/video/photoshooting the latest and greatest. Can't beat that. :)

Not everyone is lucky as you, to have a job, two at that. I just go laid off two weeks ago and I am taking it in stride. Not easy for a family of four but I know something will come up.

lets look on the other end...is there something special happening on the 25th that you MUST celebrate on that day? other than it being christmas, its not like the world is going to end on boxing day or jesus is going to drop into your house.

it sucks i know, but make double the money and celebrate bigger and better on another day with your family to make up for not being there on the 25th. you keep your job, get more money to celebrate bigger, and probably get more in the long run (maybe promotion for working on a holiday?). sometimes you need to take sacrifices in order to live better. we've all been there "i dont want to go to work", but you have to be responsible and just bust through another day.

sorry you cant get what you want, but its better than risking losing your job and testing just how good you can budget.

The most common ones that I've seen used are:

- I have explosive diarrhea, I cannot sit still for more than 5 minutes without needing to shit (then offer the boss pictures if you would like documentation and find a good picture on the internet of a really nasty shit)
- A friend of the family passed away (play off the death card, it's unethical, but it works)
- Tell them you have an eye infection and it's so bad that you can't see due to the light sensitivity. This usually clears up in a day or two, so it's a viable lie if you can pull it off.. just don't use it too often or they'll call your bluff.
- You are a witness to an accident (find the closest accident that's on your way to work and use it to your advantage)

If you're not good with any of these excuses, then just suck it up and go to work..

Idk.

For me the most viable option is to not be a bitch and work.

Adulthood sucks.... get used to it.... it ain't gonna get much better.

Ive worked almost every xmas for the last 10 years. Emergency service work sucks but someone has to do it.

BTW. Ive fired people for less. Without wrongful dismissal claims. It only takes a week or so to write someone up a few times.

Tbh i myself have not considered working during the college semester because id be in a similar situation to op half the time because of the times where i would not be able to realistically finish my assignments ( some of which take entire nights already) without taking time off work. Now if I was in a program that was purely based off taking notes and having one big exam at the end of each class... I wouldnt mind working and maybe taking a week off for exams...

but really op.. just deal with it and go.

oh wait.....so you can be that kind of "supervisor" when any person asks for time off.

So thankful that I go back Monday then off till the 2nd. And it's paid. And as to telling your supervisor you cant come in tell him you feel like shit and can't do it. Or do what a guy I work with did a month ago. Get to work and tell them you need to go home for the day as you shit your pants and are having extreme stomach problems while on your drive in. Childish yes but realistically what supervisor is gonna question this? Or check for that matter.
