I\'m currently trying to find some places who will be able to provide the aluminum pedal and foot rest set that\'s available for the Axela in Japan.

Foot Rest package (http://www.axela.mazda.co.jp/cars/axela/loption/B32HV8220.JPG)

The first place I went to is Japanparts.com. They don\'t have the Axela on their website as of yet, however they do have the Atenza (Mazda6). You can browse the site to get a general idea of the prices.

Japanparts.com - Atenza (http://www.japanparts.com/shop/shop.cgi?mode=itemlist&maker=Mazda&type_car=Atenza &type_second=Interior+and+Exterior&type_third=Inte rior+%2d+others)

Anyway, I sent them an email to see if the Axela foot rest was available. This is their reply:

Hello Bobby,

Thank you very much for your inquiry.
At first I have to tell we supply parts for JDM. We don\'t know the parts fit overseas model.
Here are answers.

1. Are you able to get this product?
-Yes, we can supply this product.

2. Can you get the footrest by itself or is it the full pedal package?
-Only available full pedal package.

3. How much is it for the footrest by itself and for the package?
-JPY12100 for one set (3 aluminum pedals).

4. How much is shipping and handling for one and then for each additional purchase?
-Shipping cost is JPY2040. If you want pay by credit card, we will charge 5% of total cost.

So quotation is like following,
*Axela aluminam pedal set (for AT) JPY12100

*Shipping to your address in Canada (insured) JPY2040
++If you pay by credit card++
* Mail order sale handling charge by CC company: JPY744
====================================
Grand Total: JPY14884 (including surcharge)

It takes around 2weeks to delivery to you.
------------------------------------------------------
You can choose payment way, Credit card, Paypal or Bank transfer to our Tokyo account..
We are glad to re-quoto with other payment way.
For credit card, we accept Visa, Master, Diners or Amex.
Surcharge is
for Credit card: 5% of Total
for Paypal: 3.9% of Total
for Bank transfer: JPY2,500

5. Would you provide a lower charge if we order a set number all at once?
-If you order 10set or more at one time & send them to one place, we will offer you 10% discount of parts. (not including shipping cost)

If you need further information, let me know.

Best regards,

Yoko
Japanparts.com

The current exchange rate is 0.012706. So JPY 14884 = CAD $189.12

There\'s a 10% discount for a GB of 10 sets. I just want to see if there\'s any interest in this. I\'ll definitely be getting one before the winter starts.

Also, I\'ve sent a similar email to Avante Mazda, emphasizing that if they can get the Axela foot rest package, they might corner the market in Toronto. They haven\'t replied back as of yet. (That\'s a good thing I think, since the first email I sent inquiring about a Mazda3 footrest was replied back with a \"not available\" message the very next day.) When they do, I\'ll post their reply.

The don\'t bother with the 200 bucks for the 3M bumper and get the pedals... no one will notice that the bumper isn\'t scratched, but they\'ll notice the pedals. Thats my opinion though...

********* UPDATE **********

I sent another email to Japanparts.com asking for the final price if we order 10 sets. Here\'s the reply:

Hello Bobby,

Thank you for your email.
Here is the quotation for 10sets of Alumi pedal.

*Axela aluminam pedal set (for AT) x 10 JPY121000
*Qty discount -JPY12100
*Shipping to your address in Canada (insured) JPY8200
++If you pay by paypal++
*Paypal handling charge JPY4752
=================================================
Grand Total: JPY121852 (including surcharge)

I look forward hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Yoko
Japanparts.com

Using the exchange rate of 0.012706, JPY 121852 = CAD $1,548.25 which works out to $154.83 per set.

I\'ll have to call up CCRA to find out if there will be any taxes that will be charged on the order. But even with a 15% tax, a set will be $178.05. There may be a brokerage fee charged by the shipping company, too. But at least you have a general idea of the price you\'ll be looking at.

In my opinion, a price of $200 or under is a damn good deal.

Oh, by the way, can someone pm shaund at Mazda3 forum and ask him if he received his set from Japanparts.com yet? And ask how the install went, too. Hopefully, he has them by now and can confirm that they will fit on the Mazda3. Thanks.

PS: shaund first posted about the pedal set at

Sorry buddy, but I drive an automatic, and thus, I only inquired about the A/T package. I went to the Axela Web Tuning page and picked a M/T car to see if there will be a pedal package, but it never came up. I guess if you are really interested, you can send an email to Japanparts.

So, I recently purchased an item on ebay from jianjdm in Japan. I recently received the duties owed and it came to 12% duty + 7% GST. Damn, but that\'s 19% total. The Import Processing fee is only $5.00.

I sent an email last night to Japanparts to see if they can put down a lower value on the package (eg. I\'ll ask if they can write down $500 for a set of 10). I also asked how much it\'ll cost if I sent them an International Bank Draft (hoping to get rid of the Paypal handling charge). Anyway, I\'m still waiting for their reply.

Once they answer, I\'ll ask them if they have any English installation instructions.

Thats cool... I\'m sorta looking for the dead pedal only, but I\'m worried it\'ll look wierd w/o anything on my pedals then...

what do you guys think? [ not that I\'d pay 200 bucks for just a dead pedal anyway... maybe Pacific Mall will get something soon. ]

I\'m not too crazy about spending 200 bucks either. I just want the dead pedal there before I wear a hole thru the carpet. I can only imagine the M/T package costing a whole bunch more as well.

Where I\'m gonna wear out the carpet is where my heal sits under the gas / break... thats why all weather is the best... can\'t wear through that easily.

For the first month, I used those cardboard mats that the service people left in there. I used them until they had holes.

I contacted Mazda USA (since I was able to download their accessories brochure .... why doesn\'t Mazda Canada have a downloadable accessories brochure???) and emailed them an inquiry about the foot rest pedal option that\'s available to Japan. I also asked about the pedal sets they have for the Mazda3. Here\'s their response:

Hello Bobby,

I\'ve been advised that part #\'s 0000-8R-L02 and 0000-8R-L06 are becoming available for order this week. Your dealership can begin placing orders right now. If they need assistance with placing orders, they have full Part Assistance resources to ensure that they know how (they shouldn\'t need help, the order can be placed as a normal,
standard accessory order).

As for the foot rest, the Japanese version fits for a completely different interior that is not carpeted in the spots that accept that accessory. In Japan, these parts snap in place and there is no way for us to do this on top of the carpeted Foot Rest that does not have the accepting mechanisms underneath either. We won\'t be offering the
footrest.

I hope that this information helps!

If you want to take a look at the accessories online, go to MazdaUSA (http://accessories.mazdausa.com/commerce/AccessoriesInit?storeId=10001&langId=-1&year=2004)

The pedal sets are aluminum (as William had previously replied that their pedal sets are very similar to the Axela pedal sets). A/T is USD $55.00 and M/T is USD $70.00. So, since the foot rest isn\'t compatible, you might be wary of getting it. However, I was thinking about using Velcro anyway so that I can easily remove the foot rest after the winter season to thoroughly clean the carpet underneath.

I guess that for now, I\'m going to check out Pacific Mall to see if they have any nice aftermarket pedal sets. If not, I may still purchase one from Japanparts.com.

PS. Did anyone try to pm shaund at the Mazda3 forum to see if he\'s installed his pedal set yet? He originally posted at Mazda3 forum (http://www.mazda3forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=6036)

Velcro might tear up the fabric under the pedal when you remove it, no?

Soulcrusher
06-12-2004, 09:23 PM
It\'d probably start tearing the carpet out a little bit, but I\'d only be removing it once a year anyway. And once it\'s cleaned, then the foot rest will be back on the carpet and hiding the carpet again. :D

Also... the pedal might shift when you put your foot on it... Velcro isn\'t THAT strong.

If I were to use Velcro, I wouldn\'t be buying industrial strength Velcro. Just the average, run-of-the-mill stuff is good enough. And when you rest your foot on it, that\'s basically all you do. You wouldn\'t have the leverage to put enough force on the pedal to move it. And as long as you don\'t kick the bottom edge of the pedal when you move your foot to the pedal, then it should remain stable.

Soulcrusher any luck in finding anything at the Pacific Mall? Flipspeed\'s manager said that the Mazda pedals are for the Eurospec cars...we\'ll wait and see.

No, I haven\'t had time to go to Pacific Mall or any other place. Been too busy with work. Also, right now I don\'t have my car. It\'s at a body shop. I\'m removing the antenna, patching up the hole, and in the midst of buying a see-through antenna strip to stick at the top of my rear windshield.

Anyway, I don\'t understand why the pedal set wouldn\'t be for the North American Mazda3. It\'s in the North American accessories brochure and the part numbers are 0000-8R-L02 and 0000-8R-L06. Can FLIPSPEED do a search with these part numbers?

Bodywork is $400 cash and the antenna is probably about $40 USD + S&H. Anyway, the antenna\'s been bugging me for a while. I really want a clean look on my rooftop. Can\'t wait til I see it. Hopefully, it\'ll be done by tomorrow. If I can get a good price for the antenna, I\'ll purchase it and try to have it installed by the following Saturday.

The antenna I\'m interested in is the Performance Teknique ICBM-9006 (http://www.performance-teknique.com/accessories.html)

I somehow doubt it. But I almost never listen to the radio. And when I do, usually it\'s to AM so that I can find out what the traffic is like. I\'ll listen to FM maybe once a month ... other than that, it\'s all mp3 :)

Anyway, I went to Pacific Mall. There\'s one shop that\'s close to the Steeles side of the mall that has a lot of auto accessories. Anyway, they have a lot of pedal sets that are supposedly universal. They basically go over the existing pedals and clipped on (screwed in, of course), sorta like my wide rearview mirror (no screws for this though).

I\'ll have to measure the pedals on the 3 and see which might have the best fit. Some of the pedals looked pretty nice.

I got my pedal set!!! Oh, almost forgot to mention this ... I got my car back!!! :p

The roof looks nice without the antenna there. Now I just have to order that stupid replacement antenna. Still waiting on a quote for a decent S & H price from a store in the US. Two other places came back and quoted me over $20 US for S & H!!! 20 bucks for a lousy 2-3 pound product. Fricking thieves!!!

Anyway, I went back to Pacific Mall and purchased individual pedals for the accelerator, brake and foot rest. I bought the Razo Exclusive Sports series ... RP71, RP73 and RP76. I\'ve already installed the accelerator and brake pedals. They were a B*TCH to put on as there isn\'t much space to work with.

The accelerator was tough because it\'s furthest away and there\'s not much room to work around. The brake is more open and would have been much easier except for the fact that the stay (not sure of the exact word for this, but stay was printed in the instruction manual ... it\'s the part that connects the pedal to the car) comes in from the right side of the pedal and this Razo pedal is ideal for a stay that comes in directly in the middle.

I puzzled over this for a few minutes before I decided to just try and screw everything in tight and see how stable it sits on the original brake pedal. I\'m happy to say that it\'s nice and tight.

Here\'s a link to a US website that sells the parts: iMotorgear (http://www.imotorgear.com/dept.asp?source=&dept%5Fid=2102)

If any of you are interested and are patient, you can order from here and try and figure out a way to get it shipped up here incurring the least amount of expenses. (This site currently ships free to the US for orders over $300) Here\'s another site that sells pedals for similar prices and shipping is free to the US for over $50. The only shitty thing is that everytime you find a part, you have to do a search all over again - All Performance Parts (http://www.allperformanceparts.com/)

I paid $137.00 cash (they worked it out by taking 13% off of the $137 and adding back the tax on to bring it back to $137). A little pricey, but I didn\'t want to wait anymore. Now I gotta decide how to I would like to install the foot rest (screw or velcro) :D

To prevent wear on my floor mats, I went to Canadian Tire to pick up just some summer rubber floor mats for the driver and passenger. I baught nice Tazmanian Devil (think Warner Bros.) ones. As I said they are summer ones. They won\'t hold as much water as the all season ones. Winter one\'s I\'ll buy when it starts to get really cold.

The beauty of it is they fit the passenger side almost perfectly. The driver side: the mats are wide enough to cover 1/2 of the deal pedal area. So I just rest my foor on the right half of the dead pedal area. It may not cover the entire area, but at least the mats will reduce the wear on the fabric.

How is the dead pedal secured?

Soulcrusher
07-04-2004, 03:25 AM
I bought some velcro strips from Walmart - they\'re actually square-shaped (under 1\") and I stuck 5 of them on the back of the pedal. It\'s quite secure and I haven\'t had any problems with it moving out of place or anything. It gives me the option of testing out where the best place to put it. I won\'t be screwing it in as I\'m not sure what\'s underneath the carpet.

Oh, btw, does the velcro eat up the fabric? that fuzz doesn\'t look too durable.

Soulcrusher
07-19-2004, 11:12 PM
Not sure. I stuck it on and it\'s been there ever since. I more or less got lucky that it turned out to be an ideal location for me. I\'m not too worried about the carpet. If one day, it does start to make the carpet really fuzzy and \"unvelcro-able\", then I\'ll screw it in. As I said before, I\'ll probably only move it once a year after the winter season is over to thoroughly detail the interior of the car.
