Would jimmy do it today? How long does it take and how much would it cost?

I got a takeda sri and I saw pictures of them installed under the battery vent regardless of their size. Would jimmy be able to do that?

Anyone else that's good with this stuff near YorkU?

why don't you call him. you do have a phone right?

Jimmy's number is in the Street Performance thread on the first page.

I am sure Jimmy could do it, but securing a same day appointment for a non emergency item is not likely.
Why does it need to be done today ?

It's a very simple install. Will take you 30-45 mins. Most of it is just reading instructions. Use the corksport sri install guide (it's on their website). Followed their instructions and no issues whatsoever. Just remember to cut the clip that holds the MAF wires.

I've never done anything like this before, don't want to mess it up. I also don't want a CEL because of it. How was it for you guys when you first did this on a mazda3?

piece of cake

it's easy to do it yourself.

depends how much of the stock air box you need to take out. some intakes (even short ram) needs the top AND bottom part of the oem intake to be removed. if this is the case, it might take a little more effort. if not then its a breeze with the right simple tools

if you get a check engine light after the install, its most likely something wrong with the mass air flow sensor. the wires there need enough slack so its no tuggin on the wires while the car is running.

it's a total breeze for all but the most incompetent/clumsy. My K&N SRI required the entire OEM airbox be removed, and even I didnt manage to **** that up. Just read the instructions and you'll be fine. If you run into any issues, you know where to ask.

It's a very simple install. Will take you 30-45 mins. 45 mins if you're all sorts of handicapped and don't know the difference between a hammer and a wrench. Some car models can be a wee bit trickier than others for a first timer, but on a gen1 3 it can be done in like 15 minutes unless you feel the urge to remove the resonator. Don't waste your money, do it yourself (or don't bother modding your car, because if you can't do something this simple when you have clear instructions with pictures you aren't a car enthusiast).

You have to start learning somewhere, and this is as easy as it gets. Worst case, put things back to stock. Do it on a weekend to make sure you have lots of time to play around with it should something not work as expected. Could also have someone help you.

You can get a CEL just as easily at a garage as at home and if its because of a bad part the garage is going to be just as useless at fixing it as you are.

I had the same thought when I got the Corksport, but I took time and thoroughly read the instructions and started to get to work on it the only thing I was afraid of tbh was the MAF but since my car is new it required no pulling or tugging it just came right out after that it was cake few ring clamps screws and finished. Don't doubt yourself, if you over think you might choke.

theres always someone faster.

to the op, do what makes you happy. but as others have said, try doing it yourself and learn about your car.

It's really not that bad like the others have said. When I sold my SRI, I even installed it in the buyer's car because it was so easy. Once you do it once, you can do it in less than 10 minutes.

Of course, once you're done, pat yourself on the back. That feel you get when you accomplished something, awesome.

BlackIce so did you get it installed yesterday ?

BlackIce

I didn't do it yesterday, I wanted it done yesterday because jimmys garage is far from my house so I wanted to see if I can get it done while I was in the area.

I took a look at the instructions, (I'll be honest, didn't even open the bag before posting this) and it seems pretty simple. I'll maybe do it on a warmer day when I have lots of time, maybe tomorrow morning.

Also how useful is a hydro shield? I ask because I have an AE Replia grill that packs up water inside it and when I open it up, the water dumps into the engine bay. It's not a lot of water but it does make a splash. I know the filter will be far to the side but it might get a splash of water here and there if I open the hood on/after a rainy day.

Forums and YouTube videos are a good resource for installation guides. Good luck!

Very straight forward procedure.
Difficulty 2/10 for full beginner.
If you manage to mess it up, you'd deserve an award.

They do work extremely well for stuff like that.

itll wick droplets of water off, but it wont stop a splash. i have mine and it also helps keep bigger debris (tiny twigs, grass clippings, leaves, pebbles, etv) from getting stuck in the pleats of my filter

Mine stopped splashes... (that i splashed on it before installing lol)

Guess it depends on how hard it splashed lol. Did the filter get a bit wet? Itll still wick water off in an event of a splash, but with enough force some water will get through. Not enough to do any damage, just get the filter a bit wet.

Cool story bro.

It also keeps chipmunks and tiny fish from getting stuck in the pleats.

i have a SRI that kind of extends halfway down the oem intake cavity, like half a cold air intake. i also no longer have the shield/tray under the engine which is on of the reasons why i have the hydroshield on all year round.

This can honestly be installed in a matter of minutes. If you haven't installed it by now I can show you how, but you'll have to come to me.
pm me if you're interested.
