View Full Version : Koni Warranty Easy to deal with?
One of my Koni yellows blew, at the same time strut mount as well.
Need to get a warranty replacement, has anyone dealt with them? Easy? Anything I should know?

Should take around 2-3 weeks not including shipping back and forth

as it's been said do you have your receipt? if so i believe the easiest way of going about a warranty exchange is to call up the place where you bought them and hopefully they can deal with the exchange for you.

If you can't find it, call Northern. I recall when I ordered my Bilstein's from them, orders went into a computer in case you lost your receipt.
It's easy. Just email Koni Warranty about the situation and fill out some paperwork. I just emailed the documents to who emailed me back, got the RGA # and then shipped my leaking shocks. 2 weeks later they arrive.
I paid around $40 at UPS to ship it to them.

When I bought mine I was told that you could pay for a new shock, ship your old one back and then whenever they received it they would reimburse the cost. or something like that.

This would make the most sense but not sure if they do this

That would be the easiest way so you don't have to send a shock in and be with out a car until you are sent a new one

To process your warranty, we will require a copy of the purchase receipt and a vehicle registration. We will generate a return goods authorization (RGA) and can replace the dampers in advance at your discretion. http://www.koni-na.com/faq.cfm

that's a method nextmod will do when helping you with warranty.
buy a shock from them and they care of the warranty and once the money goes from koni to there supplier and then to nextmod you get it back lol

i'm punching myself for not buying from nextmod, even though at the time northern had a better price....even after the gas spent on getting there lol

There ok, but not the best. I should of went with bilstein's back in the day. There have been too many cases of koni's blowing from time to time.

I currently found out that my rear right shock was leaking earlier last week and i was looking everywhere for my receipt to no avail. I pm'ed Nextmod and within that same morning I was on the phone with John and he was more than helpful in getting everything set up. This was on June 6. June 9 I got a call from nextmod letting me know the part is at the store waiting to be picked up.
So pretty much I have to pay a deposit when I pick up the new part and get the deposit refunded when I return the defective part.
Thanks again to all the guys at Nextmod in helping to facilitate this warranty procedure in an utmost swift manner!! :)

so everything is through Nextmod?
I always wondered why more companies didn't do this...I mean, how else are you supposed to send one of your shocks in for warranty if you don't have a new one to replace it with right away..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK from others who have gone directly to Koni, they will send one out once they receive a deposit payment and they will refund you when they receive the defective part leaving shipping costs up to you.
I was searching far and wide for my receipt so I could go through the above process, but to no avail so I PM'd Nextmod just asking for a copy of the receipt from a few YEARS ago and they actually took it over right from there.
So 2 things Ive taken away from this:
1) ALWAYS ALWAYS keep your receipts
2)Kudos to the guys at Nextmod for stepping up and reminding all of us why purchases there are head and shoulders above competitors.
On a side not, I was very bummed out when I found one of the koni's were shot. Despite hearing so many awesome things I guess my expectations were a little deluded.
Having said that though, Dem Potholes, Mang!! :rant

Anyone tried to make a Koni warranty replacement without a proof of purchase?

Wondering same, heard you buy one and return old one in same box. Tell them you lost the proof of purchase?
Nope
You need to send them purchase invoice as well as vehicle registration
HOW TO OBTAIN KONI WARRANTY
(You Must Have Authorization Prior To Returning Products) Koni Warranty covers factory defects to the original retail
purchaser of the dampers purchased after May 1, 1980 and suspension kits purchased after 1995. It does not cover worn
bushings, shocks installed on a modified chassis or springs sold with kits. Warranty is not transferable. All replacements
are new dampers from stock unless notified as such. Forward below documents to receive a Return Goods Authorization
(RGA) number:
• Copy of proof of purchase (dated after May, 1980)
• Current vehicle registration.
• Completed copy of warranty request form at https://www.koni.us/secured/warrantyrequest.cfm
They only warranty the original purchaser, hence the need for proof of purchase and vehicle registration. You could always try calling them (859) 586-4100 Option #6, but without proof of purchase I think you're SOL, as they need to send you the warranty authorization before you mail them the shocks for replacement
