My car just developed this problem where the steering wheel would jerk about half an inch or so. I noticed that it happens more often after shifting gears. Any one got any ideas about what's going on with this? It's funny that this car has given me no trouble in the last five years. I just went over 100,000km yesterday and now this happens.

low/uneven tire pressures, bad engine mount, bad alignment or damaged suspension parts

Massive torque steer? Does it get worse the faster you accelerate?
2009 mazda3 gt with massive torque steer?
Doubtful

There could be a problem that's exaggerating the torque steer. Likely alignment issues.

Agreed
Either way he should take the car in to get checked out

I'll just be driving normally and the steering wheel will just jerk out of nowhere. I will take it in and see what they say

Tie rod ends, wheel bearings... Though you still need an alignment check.

well aftergoing to the dealership it turned out to be too much ice packed up underneath the car causing the wheel to jerk when peices fell off. While I was there they wanted to do about $800 worth of work on the car as well (96k service, wheel balancing, wheel alighnment, replace leaking motor mount, replace belts). I just ended up chaning the motor mount. Gotta love going to the dealership.

All theyre doing is reccommending what you need based on your mileage...any other place who knows what they're doing will do the same. Not just dealerships.
You know who else trys to upsell or sell you something you don't need or didnt ask for everytime you go there? Mcdonalds.

No clunking sounds. They just chipped off all the ice that was packed into the wheel well. it's been a couple of days now and my steering is fine. I normally don't go to the dealership, but my mechanic is on vacay and he just tells me what needs to be done to the car not what's reccomended because of mileage. Been going to him for 15 years now. Very trust worthy guy.

i had snow sitting inside my steel rims which caused massive shaking of the steering wheel from 100 km/h and up. Went to the mechanic and he just hosed down the car and there was no more shaking.

Eh... Any ice falling off the wheel well would have to land in front of the wheel to affect steering. If it's loose enough to fall out, doesn't seem like it'd be hard enough to turn the car. But I guess it's possible
