View Full Version : Just bought our first Mazda...

We just bought our first Mazda (a 3, of course ;) yesterday. I've always had Toyotas and Hondas, and one Dodge Caravan, before, but the Corolla didn't thrill me and the Civic was ok in a test drive but not amazing. My 22-year-old son, will be driving it back and forth to classes at Guelph U twice a week was very keen on the Mazda 3 after driving one belonging to a friend, and since he's also driven another friend's 2012 Civic a fair bit, a Prius (hated it) he actually had more real-world driving experience with the compact segment than I did. So out we went in a low mileage 2012 from Gyro yesterday and both enjoyed it - compared to the Sienna I usually pilot it was like driving a European sports car. And then, of course...we tried out the 2014. In the end, though, we settled on a new 2013 with many bells and whistles, which we will pick up on Wednesday.

We hadn't been planning on getting anything new for a year or two; my husband is hoping to retire in a couple of years and since it's officially his car, he figured he'd get his "mid-life crisis" car then and have some fun. However, as often happens, fate had other ideas - my son got rear-ended on Bayview in our 2001 Accord the night BEFORE the snow storm 10 days ago; he's fine, but the car isn't. It doesn't take much for them to write off a car of that vintage, even one with only 116K km on it. :( I'm still dickering with the insurance company about the settlement, as they low-balled me the first time round, judging by all the listings I found on AutoTrader and have now sent to them as requested.

So - very much looking forward to our first truly NEW car since 1993 (everything in between has been used) - not what we were originally planning. Of course, I'm probably going to have to wrestle my son for it every now and again. ;)

Congrats! Welcome!

Crazy Story, Glad your son is OK!

It's always good to hear when someone wants a bit more fun, even just going from A to B.

Congrats!

No doubt you'll be wrestling your son for the car.

Just be wary if you hear the words 'Mods' or 'Modding" anywhere in your conversations with him. ;)

He's already thinking up trips to take with the car..."someone I know in Oshawa needs help with..." Uh huh. Keeps asking if there is no way we can perhaps get it on Tuesday (tomorrow)...

Anything to avoid driving the bus/Mom-Mobile! (the Sienna)

I don't think he knows much about mods - yet. Though he did want the spoiler. :chuckle

Well you better ban him from visiting TM3 then, ...he'll get instantly corrupted ( In a modding sense), and it can be highly addictive. :chuckle

I think she's the "mom".. Upon reading the OP, she mentioned something about her husband..

Anyways, congrats OP, enjoy the new zoom zoom..

Yes - I'm the mom. ;) The spelling of my name (after the "Mac" part - my other passion) confuses people regularly online. And nobody ever spells it correctly in person, except when I'm in England where they actually pronounce Paddy and Patty differently.

Welcome to the forum and do enjoy the 3!

Well, I got to enjoy it for about 15 minutes...now my son is off to show it off to his friends. :rolleyes

Tomorrow, though...zoom zoom off to do some errands and take my 93-year-old dad to the doctor. He's looking forward to the inaugural drive. He still drives - a 2000 Taurus wagon - so this will be just a tiny bit different. ;)
