View Full Version : Is it just me...or...
Is it just me? Or are the rear disc brakes smaller than the front disc brakes?
I just noticed today....i hope this is normal :/

It\'s like that on any car. There\'s always more stopping power in the front vs. the rear.
If it were reversed or the same, the car could fishtail in low traction braking.

Too bad the rear produces so much dust tho:sarc

The 2005 Volvo S40 also has the EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distrubution) system that we have (as a metter of fact, the EBD system was created by Volvo for the S40, but since the s40 and the Mazda3 are same platform, they share the techology).
What the EBD system does is thatit sensed the traction of the wheels. If traction is good, it increases the power of the rear brakes to slow to car down quicker. If that is the case, we should see less brakedust in the winter on slippery roads. I\'m just interested to see whether or not the S40 has the same brake dust problems we do... but I think the dust is mainly because of the materials of the pad.
The EBD system makes the back brakes work slightly harder than the front (since the front has more surface area, the back must work harder to produce the same force). I think that is why the back has a brake dust problem and not the front.
do you guys think the rear brake dust issue is a problem that we need to get fixed?
if so, how? and has anyone fixed it yet?

I was side by side an S40 today and I don\'t notice any brake dust problem like ours.

The break dust issue azda will not address. Even some dealers will not fix the groving issues some people are having. My suggestion to people not wanting so much break dust would be to buy some aftermarket pads and put them on. See if that helps at all.

Well I have grooves in my rotors, can\'t remember front or rear (I think rear). Would be nice if they would change those.

Yeah 3 out of my 4 disc were groving and Guelph City Mazda machined them and tried it out afterwards but they said it still didnt feel right so they gave me 4 brand new discs. So it worked out just take it in and see what they say

I\"ll get the dealer to look at them when I hit 8k and go for the oil change. Always good to hear that some dealers are willing to make their customers happy.

My grove disappeared now. I\'m a little under 6000 km.
