View Full Version : Worn bushings?

Hey guys,

I don't know much about the mechanical aspects of cars but recently I've noticed that whenever I'm slowing down (coasting), I can feel it through the floor of my car. It's really rough (vibrates) and louder than normal. Right after hard braking, I've been hearing a "clunk" sound. I also hear a creak after going over bumps but its not all the time and it's not loud so I'm not sure where it's coming from. Are these signs of worn bushings or another problem?

I have a 2013 GS that's less than a year old. If it is bushings, I didn't think they'd go so fast :(

I'm definitely going to have it inspected but wanted to get an idea of what the problem could be.

Thanks!

take it to a dealer. it should still be under warranty unless you are over 80,000 km. get them to look at it and fix it. not point trying to guess what it is over the web. could be bushings. mounts. ice build up. who knows. get someone to check it out

Unfortunately I can't take it in until probably the week after next. I can't get a day off work and the dealership is all booked up on weekends. Just wanna make sure I'm not making anything worse by continuing to drive the car.

Have you hit any real bad potholes recently? I hit a big ass one myself yesterday, think it may have knocked my alignment out....If not, then it's probably nothing to worry about. Just pay attention to if it seems to get any worse. i.e.; more vibrations/clunks or the car starts to feel loose. Then you may have to park it till you can get it in to the dealer...for safety sake.

Or on the other hand, find a shop (any shop) around you and have them just check underneath, that nothing is broken...It only takes minutes.

Wild guess, it sounds like something from the wheels.

I've hit some bad potholes this winter but it never threw my alignment off and I don't recall hitting any recently when all of this started. I didn't wanna take it to just any mechanic so I called Jimmy at Street Performance and he said he'd have a look at it. He said he'd stay open after 6pm to wait for me, and said if it's something that's covered under warranty then he won't charge me for it but if he can't find anything then there's an inspection fee. I've contemplated ignoring the issues but it doesn't seem normal lol.

so do what flag said and take it anywhere. or find a dealer like ours in oakville that you can drop it off to and take a loaner car for the day. no way to say with out the right people looking at it if it will or wont be ok / get worse or cause damage. if it wasnt like that before it would be worth the the time taken to get it inspected

Good to know that the dealership in Oakville offers a loaner. I may have to do that since my dealership doesn't and their shuttle won't take me to my work since it's too far. Thanks!

I was thinking of suggesting Jimmy to you but noticed you live in the west end. Anyhow, if he'll stay open late to get you in there, I would suggest you get it checked out pronto. If for nothing else, but to settle your worries. It can be pretty stressful not knowing if something may be terribly wrong.

Good luck, and hope everything's fine.

You get this checked out yet, or did the noises disappear?

Unfortunately I couldn't see Jimmy on Thursday, had an emergency meeting at work and had to stay late and the weather was horrible so I told Jimmy I'd reschedule because I didn't want him waiting for me. The noises are still there though, I'm gonna try to take it in next week. I have my 1 year service coming up so I'm also thinking of doing it a little early since it includes getting my brakes serviced and if there's something noticeably wrong they'll be able to catch it.

I've been told by my dealer that i need to replace both rear trailing arm bushings on my 2006. Maybe we can try and do a group buy if anyone else i having this issue.

How much were they off of ebay? I was planning to buy them from one of the sponsers and then go to Jimmy.

I wish i was handy with my car, would save me lots of money. I knew i should have taken that shop class! lol

Thread-jack much? Jenuine's 3 is basically brand new, so if anything needs replacing it will be covered under warranty.

Want to start a group buy? Start a new thread.

Thanks.

Thread-jack? I thought i was offering a viable option if her bushings, or anyone elses, need replacing. Here i thought we were giving Jenuine options on her thread.

Thanks for the suggestion though, i'll keep it in mind. :chuckle
