Long story short. The relay for my foglight relay got wet and exploded in the terminal that it plugs into. I replaced the relay but I still don't have power to the lights. My next step before I buy a new harness is to try to clean the corroded contacts. They're pretty tiny so I can't get at them with sandpaper or steel wool to get rid of it. I've saw some one suggest baking soda and water to clean it but I was wondering if there was a better route to go? Any suggestions?

if they were after market (assuming it is or the relay would have been safe in the fuse box), there should be a fuse in there somewhere, if there isn't, you're lucky you didn't fry anything else depending on where you hooked your harness in for power

also. if its badly corroded, i wouldn't bother with cleaning it, i would just replace it. that could cause you time and grief down the road at some point

Factory fogs, the relay for the harness is hidden behind the front clip. I had some work done on the front end of the car and they didn't mount the relay box back where it was supposed to go, they just left it hanging.

I'm with grabbygenier, just replace the harness. Once corrosion starts that's it.

I could be wrong since its an second gen. But the relay should not be in the bumper if its stock fogs. It should still be in the fuse box under the hood somewhere.

I know for the first gen. The harness is there along with the relay under the hood even if you don't have fogs.

What exactly got done to the car?

It's connected to the fog light harness which is in the front clip, although the relay gets connected to the washer fluid reservoir I think. When my car was reversed into in the front I had the work done at the shop. I guess they didn't put the relay back in the right spot, or they did and it fell out.

Ahh. Makes sense then. They didn't put it back where it should have been. If it's worth it (depends how much the harness is to replace) I'd fight with the body shop that did the work. Specially if it was done through insurance. Its their fault since they didn't put it back where it goes.

I had thought about doing that. But I replaced the relay and threw the old on out. I have no way to prove that they didn't do it right. The harness is around $150 so its not the end of the world.

Okay, I'm at a loss now. I purchased a new harness and plugged it in to test it out. The lights still do not come on. I'm getting 12v from the orange wire in the harness, 12v from the light gray wire, and I should be getting 12v from the green wire. The green wire is getting 0v. According to the wiring diagram the green wire is connected to the BCM 0940-1A, beyond that I have no idea what to look for.

Also, on another issue relating to the same body shop. The door strap on my front driver door would hit the window when the window was going up and down. As it turns out the body shop put the rear door strap in the front door and the front door strap in the rear door. I've never taken my car to any other body shop and I trust them fully, on top of that my dad has known the manager of the shop for 20+ years. I feel like my car was not given the right level of service that it should have received. But now I'm not sure if I'll bring it back there.
