Just curious, who do you think would win in a race. A Mazda 3 using the tiptronic or a Mazda 3 with a manual transmission. Are they comparable?

The manual...easily. Although you have the ability to shift gears with the tiptronic the computer still has the final say as to when the shifts will occur. Plus, the tiptronic only has 4 gears instead of 5 on the manual.

Unless you have a racing torque converter.:)

Not 100% sure, but I\'d put money down on the manual. I haven\'t driven or ridden in a tiptronic car yet so I don\'t know what it\'s like to shift and such.

I KNOW an MT would win.

I can tell by the dyno results. AT MZ3s make only ~128 HP, while MT ones make ~148 HP. and the torque to match. (Talking 2.3L)

The MT will be quicker off the line (torque) and in the long run due to the extra hp.

By the way, isn\'t choice 1 and 4 the same?

Choice one just says that manual would win. Choice four says that manual would win by a LOT.

BTW, i completely agree with Xenon here.

Take any car with a manual tranny and an auto, and 100% of the time, manual would win. It\'s all about the gearings.

Oh, that was me LOLZ. Everytime I read this post, I feel sorry to see that no one was voting for the tiptronic.

Hey, I can think of one situation where a tiptronic will win. That\'ll happen if the driver only has one leg. He\'ll take too long to shift gears! :p
