In the mazda 3 catalogue they have a feature called \"Slam Locks\". Does anybody know what that is?

I contacted Mazda and they said this feature is to ensure that you don\'t lock your keys in your car. If the the key is in the ignition and you try to lock the vehicle manually then the door will unlock automatically. I have yet to confirm this with the service department. They\'ve never heard of this feature either. So don\'t try doing this yet until I get the final answer.:)

That sounds like a decent feature. I have actually locked myself out of my truck a couple of times over the past 2 years. Mainly when I\'ve got a bunch of stuff to bring into the house, I grab it and totally forget my keys in the ignition. Finally an option for the dimwits like myself. :p

the feature also works when you try to use the power lock switch when the key is in the ignition. my maxima also had this feature.

:) Slam locks?? I missed that feature in reading the (extremely) thick car manual. Wow, another neat feature on an already pretty great car. I keep on discovering little things like the clips on the back of the sunvisors and in the lid of the top console, and the little slots in the back of the HB to secure the back centre seatbelt clips when retracted...

After trying different methods I think I finally figured out what Mazda was refering to when they put slam locks in the brochure. On some vehicles you cannot lock the car manually unless you lift the door handle. On the 3\'s you just push the knob inside and lock the door.
