View Full Version : Will CorkSport BBK work with 17" rims

I know some folks here have CorkSport big brakes and I would want to know if they would fit with 17" rims. I know they have the template on their website and it kind of depends on wheel design, but I don't the rims yet and just looking for a a set. I would want to get the CorkSport BBK in the future so I don't want to screw myself with the rims.
So is there enough clearance for them with 17"?

There was a 14 or so page thread on msf regarding them, but all I remember about it was that it became a bit of a b*tch-fest with people wanting to know who made them and that 16 in wheels did not have enough clearance (for those running fd's).

Thanks, I tried google'ing it first and couldn't find the answer. Much appreciated.

I think I found my answer:
"My 17x9 RPF1 didn't clear the Stoptech kit."
14 pages later :D
Although I'm looking more at 17x7.5 so maybe they would work, however, after reading CelestSpeed3 post about them I might of just changed my mind about this kit.

They might clear 17"s diameter wise, but i can tell you they cleared the stock OEM rim face by about 2-4mm (Anyone who's seen my car in the last few months can confirm) Offset is gonna be even more important with a 17" I'm sure.

They have a template on the CS website you can print out and cut to size, put it in the bore of the wheel.

there ya go
Reason for upgrading to a bbk?

My Stoptechs are under 17x9 wheels, it's just the individual wheel fitment. RPF1 are not good for BBK kits. The enkei PF01 will fit in 17's I've tried those on the car before.

Like I said in my first post I don't have the rims yet so the template does not help me. I was looking at buying some rims, but maybe I will wait another year :D

So.. I have the BBK...
If you're buying it for 'more stopping power': save your money.
That isn't to say i don't think the callipers are great. They are.
But you won't get a faster stop. In fact I found that with the stock compound, you actually get less initial bite, but that the braking is more linear, and easier to modulate. You will also get better pad and rotor wear being a 4-pot v.s. floating calliper design.
Most importantly you will get bette heat dissipation and less fade when you're doing hard repeated braking, like at the track.
What you won't see is what i imagine you're thinking when you say 'more stopping power' Fact is your stock rotors and callipers are more than adequately designed for stopping your car quickly. If you think you need more, brake pads will probably provide it. If you can lock up the brakes and get the ABS to kick in on dry pavement then what you really want are better tires, not better brakes.
To get more stopping power, you'd need bigger diameter rotors along with those upgraded callipers. It needs to be said this isn't a big brake kit. It's upgraded callipers.
Bottom line if you aren't planning on tracking your car, you will get far more bang for your buck out of good pads and rotors than out of this kit. And yes, I've had it since the day it was available. I was likely the first person in Canada to install them.

i never had fade on the track, and that includes TMP which has many hard braking zones from straights to slow speed corners.
With both HP+ and the stock pads

Yup. Basically that.
I won't lie, I totally just love how they look.

do you have a pic of them on your car?

Yea. I think I've got one with the oem rims and one with my current wheels. I just have to find them.

One thing you guys seem to ignore is that I don't have speed3, but a regular 3 GS with tiny brakes. I think in my situation this would be a BBK as I would have to upgrade to bigger rotors (speed3) as well.
In addition, I would like to eventually start tracking this car, but I'm having hard time convincing my wife :D
I do appreciate your feedback though :)

How can you say that if you've never been to the track on stock brakes? They may seem like "tiny brakes", however they are more than adequate. But hey at least you'll look hellacool getting passed by fiestas and yarises.
Instead put the money towards nicer pads and tires.

Used to own a regular 3 also. I do not see the need for a BBK on these vehicles. Just buy some decent rotors and pads if needed. Otherwise save your money.

Fair enough, thanks for the advice.
