Hi All,
2013 Mazda 3 GT
Today I was changing my winters to summer tires and I noticed that I have some rust on the bottom of the car/suspension. (The car isn't even a year old yet...)
I did take the 10 year guarantee with the Mazda Dealer for rust and paint and blah blah blah... I'm not sure if I should be concerned about this, or if this is "normal"
Advice Please

Also the hub for the wheel is rusting like crazy now too? Is this all normal?

That's not normal at all.. lol.. I'm not an expert but it looks like something is rubbing up against the strut causing it to rust? Maybe a stone or something lodged under the dust guard?

definitely bring it to the dealer to have it check.. as for the wheels.. if you're running on steelies i think that's normal as i have rust starting to show up on my winter steelies too even if it's just 4-5 months old

Minor rust on the frame I believe is unfortunately unavoidable. The main concern is when there's rust on body panels. I bought rust warranty protection too, make sure you take it in for inspection every other year or else you'll void your warranty.
That rust on the shock body is weird though...

I knew that eventually it was going to start rusting. I just wasn't aware that it would be within 11 months of buying a brand new car. Kinda sadening but eh, such is life.

did you get a krown spray before winter?

I got the rust protection/spray/leather/paint protection from the dealership of which they told me they spray the car once and it's covered for up to 10years. I was under the impression that since they told me that, I didn't have to do anything else except be happy about the fact that they would take care of it. All they told me was I had to make sure to get the rust inspections done annually at the dealership to keep the warranty valid. Now I'm left with the feeling of , WTF ?

OP did you get the FinalCoat protection plan? Cause if you did that shouldn't have happened? Seeing as how it is apparent that rust is forming, that would be covered, just curious though you were told to "Oil spray" the underneath of the car even with the 10 rust protection?

Why would he do that? He bought rust protection warranty through the dealership.

I doubt the dealer would tell him that, not sure where this is coming from. Unless it differs from dealer to dealer providing different rust warranties, the warranty covers body panel rust originating from within the affected panel, not 100% sure it covers rust on frame.

Well that's why I posed the question, if OP has the finalcoat protection plan that covers rust/corrosion forming from the outside to in, Mazda's corrosion warranty only covers rust/corrosion forming from the inside to out, what I am more curious about is if the OP was told/advised to have his car oil sprayed underneath even though he had purchased the rust protection plan.

I'm looking at the paper now that was given to me about the Rust Proofing/Paint/Leather... and it says " Rust Inhibitor" and the brand is... Amer Gard Plus

Okay I see then that it is a different rust protection plan? Sorry about that OP its just I had purchased the rust protection plan (FinalCoat) and it was explained to me that there is no need for any kind of additional oil spraying, the protection plan covers against all forms of rust no matter how it was formed.

This thread is a big box of meh.
You're going to see some rust on the leading edges of the underbody. You live in Montreal, known for it's great roads and minimal use of salt in the winters.
The plastic sleeve is rubbing on the metal shock body, no big deal. When the car is at ride height it's not visible.

Rust on the rear shock in common. As it moves up and down, the plastic dust boot comes in contact with the body. This is unavoidable.
As for rust on the hat of the rotor, this too is normal. Salt is a vicious substance and can cause rust in a matter of hours. If it bothers you to see the rust, remove the rust with a wire brush and just paint the area by rattle can or with a brush. The paint on that part from the factory is pretty thin.
Mazda will not warranty that surface rust unless it perforates which is not going to happen on a rotor.

Also shocks are considered wear and tear item so good luck getting that replaced under warranty in the future.
Rust in those area are normal, but why does your under body look bone dry. A rust protected car should not look like that, unless you go through a lot of automatic car wash w/ under body cleaning or the dealer just didn't apply enough.

With how much salt we got this past winter, my opinion is that it is normal (unavoidable is a more apt term). However, having said that, it would help to get added protection (Krown).
