OH FK... Terrible news.

It's safer to park it when it's like that out there.

ooooor did the Ferrari F40 wreck the Dodge? Whose fault was it?

They report that a mechanic at Ferrari of Ontario in Toronto was returning from a test drive when a red light runner smashed into the Ferrari F40 he was driving. No one was seriously hurt.

From the linked article.

Ouch. Poor Ferarri. Wonder how buddy in the Dart is gonna explain that one to his insurance company. "Yea hi I just ran through a red light and went into a rare Ferarri F40". Notice though that the Dart doesn't have near as much physical damage as the F40.

Someone was rubbernecking and didn't watch the light...

Bright side, the F40 is mid engine, so fixing it won't be nearly as bad as it might look (although will cost more than a brand new 3 GT still lol)

It's not a carbon tub right? If it was the damage would probably be limited to the front subframe and bodywork. But if it's a full space frame like I think then the whole thing might be tweaked.

Sad indeed..

I think it is a carbon tub... and I think after a shunt like that, the tub is compromised. :-(

It all depends. Of course it's 30 years old tech. But apparently the Koenigseggs that were used in crash testing showed absolutely no compromises in their carbon tubs, just crumpled subframes. (Think it was Koenigsegg...)

N.B. Google Chrome wants to auto-correct "Koenigsegg" to "Niggardliness".

The F40 has somewhat of a carbon/kevlar tub, but not to the extent of most modern day 'carbon tubs' and is not a major weight bearing component.

I'm sure the F40 involved in yesterday's accident will be fixed without issue.

Beautiful car wasted though.

Liability has no relationship with how much your vehicle is worth or what it costs to repair.

They won't care.

Ontario is a no-fault system, this means that the Dart owner's company is only responsible to repair the Dart, they won't pay to fix the F40.

Now in this specific circumstance, the F40 was being driven by a mechanic, therefore it was in the Care Custody & Control of a (hopefully) insured shop. The shop's insurance will be responsible for paying for the repairs.

since the dealership was Ferrari of Ontario, don't think the owner will have any issues and the dealership will take care of everything.

Thanks Wilson.

That chassis looks like its been through Colin Chapman's school of racing:
1. Build a car
2. Take away pieces of it one by one until it basically buckles under its own weight.
3. Put that last piece back in and go racing!

It's an amazing thread on FerrariChat (which I appear to be blocked from at work.....) about the restoration of a non-original F40LM that was converted by a privateer to LM Spec and then left to rot for a decade.

I just watch fast n loud episode last night where they bought a wrecked f40 and rebuilt it. It was in worse shape than this one. They paid $400k for car and $295k to fix it but that was adding some upgrades. Sold it for 900k.
Very sad
