Why is it some people insist on slamming the car shut? It\'s quite obvious that you have a brand new car not a huge hunk of 1980s Detroit metal in which you had to slam the door in order to properly close it! How do you politely tell them not to slam the door when entering or exiting your vehicle?

My dad slams the door... mostly because the 3\'s door is so much lighter than the Outback that he\'s used to driving.

My friends had lots of fun slamming the doors on the rental car. Once we were in a parking lot with some dude beside our car sitting in his car with the window rolled down. My friends got on and SLAM, SLAM and SLAM. You should see his face gesture, like WTF... lol...
If it\'s my car... I\'ll tell the person to be more gentle and apply less force.
I get that too... friends and *especially* older people (relatives of like 40+ yrs of age)... they SLAMMMMMMMMMMMM as if the door is made of concrete. Holy crap I hope they never have to ride in my 3... (I\'ll just tell them my driving sucks and they\'ll just keep jolting back and forth and get car sick!) hehehe
EDIT; to answer your question, I\'ve already told a couple of friends before they entered the car that the doors pretty much close themselves so PLEASE just tug a little bit and the door will spring shut. They\'re like, \"okie!\"

I find that very very true... The door close shut with the slightest effort. Even the rear hatch on the Sports are very light in comparison to some of the other hatches I\'ve used.

Gotta be careful with that hatch on the first time closing it. I slammed it by accident. Wasn\'t my own 3 tho, heh heh. If you use the plastic finger jam on the right side of the lower edge of the hatch, just pull down slightly and let gravity close it shut, feels like you\'re spinning the big wheel on Price is Right... :p

I was thinking of getting some stickers made up that said \"You slam it...you\'re walking\" and sticking them on the doors.
Xenon can you help me out with these? :D (just kidding)

I did see a sticker that goes on the passenger Windows:
WARNING:
This vehicle is equipped with Variable Valve Timing. The high velocities that this vehicle can reach can be hazardous to your breathing. All female passengers are asked to remove all clothing before entering.
:D
I\'m sure there are variations.... and VVT can probably be swapped with something else so our GS and GX members can make use of the sticker too :p

Might as well add \"No Smoking\", \"No Food or Drink\", \"Please Keep Your Feet Off The Seat\", \"Emergency Exit\" (on the moonroof).... :p

I wouldn\'t mind having something plastered on my hatch along the lines of \"Tailgate and Die\" :)
Some people are just so damn ignorant. I was in a friend\'s car before (a standard) and he downshifted to slow down, reaching a red a light (still quite a distance away) and the car behind honked because of this... what an ass. That driver\'s own damn fault to drive so close.

Hmm, anal eh? When my truck got old I stopped really caring about \'foreign\' objects and their associated smells being in it (fast food mostly). Now I\'m trying to preserve every last day of that \'new car\' smell and I\'m being a tyrant about anything being brought into the car. Hell, I\'ll even try to find a clean spot in a PAVED parking lot to park (away from other cars) so I don\'t step in sand or anything else that\'s been deposited there. My g/f asked to me the other day \"How long are you going to act like this with the car?\" I replied probably a year. She didn\'t even say anything, all I got was this: :sarc
Crazy, with any other vehicle I\'ve owned I don\'t ever remember randomly removing the driver\'s floormat and shaking it out because I saw some grains of sand on it.....

funny part, i sitll havn\'t figured out how to remove the damn driver floor mat yet...
Driver\'s side stock floor mat? Remove it from the clip. I tried removing the clip WITH the floor mat and nearly ripped the interior carpet... :(
Push down on the round side of the clip and push out through the hole. When you put the mat back on, pointing side in first. So much easier to put on then to remove.

Yeah there is a clip with a point which points towards the rear of the car. If you gently pull and lift the mat from the front of the car and press down on the clip it should pop out of the hole in the mat.
