View Full Version : Rough/bad ride quality, banging suspension noises

I replaced the front and rear struts/shocks in the past six months. But lately, I've noticed my ride quality is shit. Everytime I go over uneven and bumpy roads, it sounds like the wheels are going to snap off. I can hear it from all 4 sides and it's driving me bananas. Anyone know what could be causing it? In the front, the sway bar links are new so I can rule that out and everything seems tight. No play whatsoever.. :/

Are those oem type struts/shocks? Are you on lowered springs? Blown shocks/ struts perhaps...
Thread title needs some work too

what sounds does "about to snap off" sound like? my rear shocks failed on me not too long ago and made a knocking/rattling noise. if you could get a sound clip or even a video of it itll help a lot

Oem struts. Front are Monroe Quick Struts and the rear are Mazda oem struts from Mazda. The car isn't lowered, it's all oem. Zero mods to the suspension.

It's hard to explain.. The ride quality just sucks. I only hear it when I got over really uneven roads or if I go over a sewer drain.. But it's only the wheel area that goes into the or over the divots/bumps.

Can I change it? I was pissed when I wrote it because I can't figure out for the life of me why it's soo loud. It sounds lie crap from the interior of the car. Like something's gonna snap right off.

Seems you can now do this through tapatalk. Back out to thread list view, then tap and hold the thread title.

is the ride bouncy? if so the struts are bad. but it could also be the mounting points that broke off which happens far too often on our cars

I don't think it's the mounting points, at least not the rear ones.
Based on my experience when the rear one went/snapped off on my car it sounded like a friggin jack hammer was goin off inside my wheel well on even the smallest bump.
From what the op is describing it could be the trailing arm bushings. Both of mine are toast and I get one heck of a racket when I go over bumps.

This could be it.. that's one thing I haven't touched yet.
The bolts that go through my new strut mount are also toast.. bro over tightened it.. I didn't know that til I applied very slight pressure with a ratchet and it turned easily.. :| If I ever have to do strut mounts again, that's going to be a huge B..

my strut mounts are in horrendous shape. They sound like i'm gonna shoot a strut threw my hood lol. Fixing that tonight. Anyone ever try a fusion strut mount on the 3? They are slightly different bolt locations so they'd need new holes but the design looks so much better than ours...thoughts?
