Nothing decided for sure yet. Might do it stand alone mid August. Or combine with Heart For Hearth in September.

Booter22 I understand your thoughts, but a lot of time and a lot of money goes into running MoM, and other events. It becomes a real grind to put together all the logistics of an event. MoM was great when there were 3-5 clubs that it could rotate between. ToP, TM3, Mitaphiles, RXOntario . ToP did a great job last year, but TM3 had run it several years prior.

I feel the same way about this. Their two completely different kinds of events.

Yea and with h4h and the wanting to spell stuff it doesnt leave much for non mazda 3 owners to do but hang around and its kind of unfair unless they are included but then you have a bunch of cars and runners and such.. just seems to take away from one or the other.

We don't only spell stuff at H4H. We also try to follow each other around the airport with one car length between us trying to break records.

I find with MoM it is much more casual and chill. Hang out and talk cars yada yada BBQ stuff. With HfH a good chunk of time is spent in your car following instruction with the end result being something crazy cool that everyone can be proud of. Not saying the experience is any better/worse than a BBQ, both are equally fun - just different kinds of fun.

It does seem to me that the 2 events are geared totally different.
If there was a way they could both be brought together as to not have one take away from the other, i bet it could be an epic event. Sadly, i doubt it would be an easy task.
I can talk with the fellow guys of SOM6 and see if any of them would be interested in helping out.

Heres some insight as to whats going on...this is posted on the MOM2013 facebook page as well...
So what's going with MOM 2014?
Well in a nutshell, nothing. But let me explain while a lot of us wanted to bring MOM2014 to fruitation there are a lot of behind the scenes parts that need to come together, but mainly: Money, Support (Volunteers/Club) and Time.
Lets explain with the easiest one first, Time. Time is easy we plan ahead, get a plan together and act on it. This year time wasn't too big of a concern because the other 2 parts were already not looking too good. Time is something that realistically doesn't affect the running of MOM. Typically the booking of the park and the rental items are the hardest things to do however again we can't book it if any one of the other 2 parts are missing.
The next one is Support, the spirit of MOM was originally setup to have a different club take the event on, however the trend in the last 4-5 years have been 2 main clubs running it Toronto Protege Club (TOP) and Toronto Mazda 3 (TM3) with a few core people that have been involved on both clubs. It becomes difficult as support and resources get tapped constantly, to run a event of this scale and have it go off well. It is also a labor of love, were all volunteers with our respective clubs and let's face it, life does happen sometimes and were unable to give 100% to our clubs as other parts of our lives take precedence. There is a lot that needs to be done and prepped for an event like this (getting material, planning, pickup rental stuff and dropping it off, people to volunteer at the event, people to get sponsors on board, getting trophies made, etc). That being said having enough support to have MOM run 110% this year would have been difficult.
Finally we get to the biggest hurdle of call, Money. To say it frankly, it costs money, and a decent bit of it to run an event like this. Having only 2 clubs consistently run it does put a drain on money for those 2 clubs and it comes to a point that if you cannot run it as a fully finished polished event, then is there a need to run it (pardon my language) half assed? The cost of $5 per car barely even covered food, let alone all the other costs involved. For the clubs involved it's a purely give type of event, there isn't left over funds, there isn't money to be made its an event for the people. As you can image 2 clubs running this event consistently drains resources till it comes to a point where the amount of money coming in cannot sustain the amount going out. Some might say "why can't Mazda sponsor this?", to put it easily there's a lot involved as there is an approval process, not to mention having enough people to put on the event and also be able to ensure a good turnout. Mazda has been helpful in ALL the years MOM has been run, and this year would have been no different however the decision was made by the two clubs that this year there wouldn't be a MOM held due to everything involved. This doesn't mean that MOM is indefinitely cancelled, what it does mean is that this year there were 2 key factors support and money that were lacking and better to postpone till next year (2015) then to put on an event that isn't up to par of previous MOMs. Being one of the people that has been consistently involved in a major way the last 5 years of running MOM I can say this with a heavy heart, I truly wish we were able to hold a MOM this year, however I think it's better that we have a MOM that's 110% a go, then one that isn't. I do hope that next year we'll have a MOM back on the table and be what MOM has been over the last few years, homegrown fun for everyone to come out and have a good time.

considering this meet is dubbed meeting of the "MAZDA's" why not go after other forums for funding support?
No offence but (IMO) ToP members are running fewer and fewer considering the lack of protégés still on the road.
But there should be a larger Mazda following with current models still on the roads, 2's, 5's, 6's, RX7-8's
Is there not any forums for those models?
Definitely a shame indeed. One of the bigger and more looked-forward-to events of the summer in my opinion. But the concerns raised seem quite fair, and understandable.

I'm guessing those forums aren't as big as don't have as many resources to host an event like this? Though maybe if a couple of them teamed up it may be possible?

Instead of $5 per car what about $5 per person...
Or $10 per person
Nevermind $10 per person doesn't get you very far

I would pay up to $20 per person or $20 for adults $10 for kids. Last years H for H I paid $20 and I had to leave after 15 min due to an emerg. I have no issue paying money for events like this. Well worth it IMO

And I totally understand where youre coming from, but its not up to us to go to other forums for funding supporting, the essence of MOM is for those clubs to STEP UP and take over MOM. What used to happen is at the end of MOM another club announces they are running it the following year. Its hard to just force it on a club to get funding support, and remember where theres funding support theres also sometimes strings with that funding so it becomes a battle as to how MOM gets run, theres alot more to it then just asking clubs to give funding and calling it a day.

Yep, most clubs dont have the support or funding to run an event of this size. Not saying it cant be done, but I am saying that its a big undertaking and alot of clubs dont have the ability to take it on.
And I see a lot of Miata and Mazda5 tuners around
They are, but again Miataphiles and the other various Miata forums have been difficult to say the least. The Mazda5 crowd hasnt even come out to the event as far as I remember, having tuners is one thing...having an organized club is another.

While it would be nice to have 1 big club, theres ALOT of politics involved and 90% of all clubs that merge tend to die shortly there after from my what I have seen. From what I know of there has been no MOM held in Ottawa, atleast for the last 5 years and 2 years preceding that.

People bitched at having to pay 5 bucks a CAR plus the 6 bucks in Park Entrance Fees, how is 20 bucks going to fly or even 10 bucks per person... While a few might want to pay, most wouldnt come out and would end up having less people come out and taking away from what MOM is supposed to be. MOM was more about having the family out, having fun, doing a picnic type of thing, showing off your car and not being an expensive event, something that the burden of running gets shared between a bunch of clubs taking the event on each year. Upping the cost also means upping what you get for your money as an attendee. Additionally HforH is a vastly different event, cant really compare the two.

I wonder how much $50/50 draws can bring in for the event.
Prizes are mostly donated anyway, no? So mostly it would be the cost of food/venue/etc.
Perhaps venue cost can be covered by having MOM at a sponsor' shop?

Cant count on 50/50 at the event, it would have to be done ahead of time to know if there is enough cash.
Prizes are mostly donated by sponsors, so yes most of the cost goes to food/venue/rental truck/etc.
No, not at a sponsors shop because 1) other sponsors dont then donate to the cause 2) MOM isnt a parkinglot meet 3) This was discussed before with sponsors (not this year but in previous years) and it introduces a few things such has how many spots without affecting other business in the area, no where to do fun events like tug of war/etc, liability to the sponsor/vendor, and that's just off the top of my head from what I remember.
Not trying to shoot you down, and I do appreciate your input and thoughts however these are ideas we all had and tried to exhaust. It becomes an event that's no longer MOM, or it takes away from the essence off MOM. MOM has been as successful as its been because the last bunch of years weve tried to stay to the roots of what MOM is/was.
But dont worry, hopefully next year it'll be back and we can all enjoy.

As opposed to having MoM, why not TM3 and friends end of summer/early fall picnic ? Thinking the date we originally had for HFH 9/21 or 9/22.

Items that rack up costs for MoM are BBq rental , truck to haul BBQ, sound system, generator.
Maybe a few members can bring bbq's , maybe SomeGuy can help with the sound system ? TM3 can cover food. Instead of doing a show and shine with 10-12 categories we do 4-5 joke categories ? Member most likely to blow their engine ? Most likely to lose half their car in a pothole, etc..
