View Full Version : Straight through muffler on a Gen 2 skyactiv

Got a magnaflow muffler from a friend who upgraded his muffler after only having this one on for a few months. Nothing wrong with it, just wanted a double tip rather than a single. It came off his Volkswagen golf and is a straight through design.

Is possible/has anyone else installed one, on a gen 2 skyactiv which doesn't have a straight through design from stock?

Can anyone recommend any good muffler shops that can do something like this in Vaughan (or nearby).

Stock exhaust.

To me it looks like the ends just need to be cut off, hangars relocated and a couple feet of pipe needs to be welded but i really do to know if this is even possible or worth my time.

If not..... I have a muffler for sale.

:D

A muffler shop can do what you want. On my sky, i have a straight thru kinda deal as i dont have a muffler, and its routed over the rear axle. The shop will just measure, and weld it us as needed. If you are selling your stock axleback muffler i may be interested

I may sell it, not %100 sure if I want to just hang on to it for resale or anything later on but I'll let you know.

Do you know any muffler shops that could do this install for me?

Any issues/pros and cons to having your muffler modified at this point?

My 3 is about 7 months old (it's a 2013) so I'm kind of weary about doing this. I don't want to complement void my warranty (I'm totally aware I'll lose warranty on the exhaust) but I don't want to regret trying to put this muffler under there later down the road

I don't have any advice on this exact muffler, but when I had mine done they relocated the Eclipse muffler that the guy recommended.

As for where to have this done, many people on here will recommended JPG in Oakville. www.jpgexhaust.com/

The people there are honest hard working, I have sent a number of people there to have various pieces of work done, anything from a custom catback(like myself) to a muffler replacement, to a lady who was dragging her exhaust behind her on Trafalgar. I don't know if they are necessarily the cheapest out there, but the quality of work speaks for itself.

custom 2.5 inch SS pipes, Eclipse muffler, Infiniti Tip, came out to about 550$+tax if I remeber correctly.

depending when you ever need this I have mine sitting in my basement, I am a little hesitant to sell it, but if you were trading in your car or something I may part with it.

Well i have a muffler delete, so no muffler on mine at all but its been solid since jan1/2013 when i got it done. I wouldnt be weary though, lots of us have exhaust on our cars, we want the sound! There ar a few dealerships that are sponsors who will understand that a muffler wont do anything to void your warranty. I saw do it! Im going to get some new exhaust tips welded up and a race pipe put in i think to get a it louder

If you want to feel more comfotable, Racing beat and Corksprot have skyactiv specific exhaust but meh, i dont see the need. My muffler delete was $100

Nah. What I got this magnaflow for, it doesn't even make sense to look for anything else. It's exactly what I need.

Just need it installed.

Going to check out a few muffler shops tomorrow.

What's an average price for a muffler install? Want to know what I can/should expect and what kind of numbers I should steer clear from.

Turns out these kinds of mufflers won't fit on the gen 2 skyactiv models. If it will, I'm having a hard time finding someone. I've gone to 3-4 muffler shops soo far and no one can make it work.

I'll be keeping my eye out in the classifieds section for anything used.

Thanks for the help this far though.

I have a muffler for sale.. If anyone wants it LOL

If it's legal it's something id consider actually.

I'd love to hear it though. I really don't want anything crazy loud and that sounds like it might be just what I'm looking for but hard to gauge with a phone

Actually I think a muffler is required in Ontario: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bills_detail.do?locale=en&BillID=1672

But then again if you followed that to the letter you basically can't change anything.

Agreed, but than the above magnaflow muffler, since its straight thru, would be considered illegal. I want to record harleys just to have on my phone incase a cop tries and says something

I work across from a Harley Dealer and they are up and down the street all day longer shaking the neighbors windows. I don't understand how people can get tickets for a modified muffler for "unnecessary noise"

Lets hope a high compression motor doesnt needexhaust back pressure.. which im sure has dropped drastic since removing the muffler. Otherwise good luck to the life of the engine...

Seeing how much space is under there, really makes me upset over the fact that after visiting 4 different muffler shops, none of them would just make the muffler that I have work under there. It clearly fits and yeah, making it work would mean it wouldn't be a "straight through" style muffler. But it will fit, and it can work.

Sounds like every shop was just lazy to relocate some hangars (on the muffler) and bend some tubes ffs.

Ugh. :(

You could always just do what I did, threw a dual tip bumper on, and a speed 3 muffler, worked out ok. I like to think of myself as a sleeper of fuel economy. (Normally it would be preferred to go the other way, sleeper of speed, but I had to work with what I had)

If you're putting a hatchback exhaust on a sedan, it won't fit exactly, the pipes out of the muffler are a little too short. Threw my muffler on my buddy's sedan, and the tip is about 8 inches in behind the bumper.

I'm more on the fact that it's illegal and unsafe to have the exhaust pipe under the car. It should be at least under the bumper, not behind it. My buddy is getting headaches driving because the exhaust is coming in the car. I just want to make sure you get a sedan one, not a hatch one. Just for your safety :)
