Broken rear shock mount. I've decided to replace with KYB shocks (part #343412) and KYB mounts (part #SM5619). The part that I'm unclear about is the part with red arrow.
1. What is it (is the a bumper to prevent bottoming out?)
2. Will it come with the new shocks? (based on product images and "unboxing" videos it doesn't look like it)
3. Where can I get replacement?
Car is a 2005 Mazda 3, hatch.
Thanks!

1. Yes, you are correct, it is a bumper
2. No it doesn't come with KYB's
3. Mazda

I was hoping for an after-market/KYB alternative since their prices are usually a lot better than OEM. I have a feeling Mazda might bundle that with the shocks and not sell it separately. I'll give Mazda a call tomorrow.
Thanks!

The bump stop can be purchased stand alone. I recall it being about $35 per side

Nope. It looks like it's not sold separately. It's sold as part of the rear shocks. I called 2 dealerships to confirm. I asked for both Mazda 3 and Mazda 5. So the rear shocks come with the upper mount, bump stop (the part that I need), the plastic dust cover.
So far I haven't been able to find this part from after-market sources. I'll probably end up re-using the existing one that's chewed up.

Odd as I had purchased them stand alone before. Perhaps it was an aftermarket solution.

i called a few dealers in ottawa when mine broke and same thing. cant get them from mazda as they are part of the shock.
went with aftermarket ones. cant remember the brand but they were around 30$ each.
easy to replace. takes 10 mins and you dont have to remove much. rear shock comes out easy once the car is lifted

I looked at rockauto.com and autopartsway.ca and can't find it (front strut bump stops are easy to find but not for rear shock). General google search is not really helpful unless I have an after-market part number. Do you remember where you got it or part number?

The part number for the Mazda5 bump stop is CEY0-28-1A1 (28-320B in the pic)

Hmm...I called Mazda and they say it's not a Mazda part number.

I actually found that earlier but got turned off at checkout because the website doesn't handle international orders to Canada. I'll email them to see how much it'll be for shipping but so far this is becoming a pain. I'll probably just end up re-using my existing one.
Thanks everyone for your input!

That is a Mazda number. They are just to lazy to look into it. Give me a few to work on it.

I find a lot of dealerships won't do ANYTHING without a VIN number.

Some things have so many opptions you have no choice but to have a VIN. But this bump stop is not one of them.
So the part number changed up. CGY0-28-1A0 is what you need. $40 each.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but it's completely ingrained in some parts departments. E.g. I want the price on LED tail light assemblies, which my car doesn't have. Obviously it can't be looked up using my VIN, but if you (the dealership I was calling at the time) want my business don't just say "we need a VIN".

Awesome! That's it. It's more expensive than I had hoped. I'm getting Jimmy to do the repairs so if he says I need a new set then I'll get them.
Thanks again!

where are you located? if you don't mind waiting until the weekend of the 12th you could ship it here. You can reuse your existing one til it comes in

Mazda of Toronto and Mazda 5 brake rotors and rear caliper bracket. That was the last time I will call them for parts.

so CGY0-28-1A0 includes the mount? pics?
Xerox

It's my understanding that CGY0-28-1A0 is just the bump stop. I don't have pics because I didn't end up getting it - I'm going to try to re-use the originals on the car (for a 9 year old car I'm trying to keep repair costs low). I'm taking my car to Jimmy later today and if he says the one I've got is too damaged then I'll order a new set.
But when I called Mazda parts to enquire about this part # he seemed perplexed as to what it was since he's never ordered it before. But it is a valid part number and they do sell it for about $40.00 each. (which seems like a huge rip off since the entire shock which comes with this piece is about $95 each)
If you buy the entire shock from Mazda it's suppose to come with everything (including bump stop, plastic dust shield, mount). They apparently don't sell them separately but who knows, maybe there's a hidden part number of each piece.

Damn. I actually ordered my shocks, struts, and mounts from rockauto. I thought I checked all the sections for it but I missed it. Too late for me now but that looks like the correct part and most economical option.
