View Full Version : Eibach Prokit + Koni Orange Install Question (+ pics)
Hey everyone,
I recently installed new prokit springs and koni oranges. Just had a quick question. I noticed that the konis come with a plastic ring to put on the strut, but I just used the original OEM one. Not exactly sure what the whole purpose of it is, but the OEM one seemed better suited. Is this a bad thing? I've had em on for a few days now with absolutely no sounds, clunking or the like. Runs super smooth and fine. I did use the Koni plastic rings for the rear shocks though.
Here's a pic of the strut with the OEM plastic cover.

Here it is installed.

Another note for noobs like myself, the paint and weld spot on the bottom of the struts were way too thick/big. Had to grind them down to the metal in order for them to even fit. I had no idea that this was something that happened. I was really concerned that maybe I was accidentally given the wrong ones. Thankfully I found other people with this issue as well and just went ahead.
After install.

I absolutely love the way it drives now. I highly recommend this combo. Now I'm considering a rear sway bar just for a little bit more stiffness.
Oh and here's a closer pic of the gap afterwards. I'm on 17s.

Same compo here too. Im a bit disappointed, I was expecting a bit firmer suspension, but this is actually softer than original. Make sure u cut front bump stops, I have to redo...

koni oranges are oem replacements and are said to be about 20% stiffer than oem and are the equivalent of koni yellows (which have adjustable dampers) on the least stiff setting
they will not be softer than oem anyway you cut it

I just did mine last weekend and i love the ride, it's noticeably stiffer.
Also, I did not cut the bump stops, Koni's instructions say you don't need to.

Give the car about a week to settle. You'll see the springs will eventually come down a bit more.
here's an example with my car on Pro-sports with OEM shocks (still ride fine too)

I hope to upgrade to oranges as well this summer for a slightly stiffer ride. I may look at Road Magnet springs though instead of the eibach's
PS - as for "grinding down the shocks to make them fit" you shouldn't need to do this. These struts are made with a pinch bolt design. You may have to "press" them with a bottle jack on the lower arm, but you shouldnt have to grind them down. if you have done so, make sure you cover that shock up to prevent it from rusting (using paint)

Maybe I was expecting more, but I would say this is a granny combo ;).
And I did my readings too, but after few hard bottom hit I cut them. Ok now.

great choice! I've been on this combo for about 1.5 years now and I love it! and like everyone else said.. give it some time.. once the springs settle you will see a slightly lower drop..not too much though...

Anyone that is running pro kit with Koni oranges on their daily driver using a rsb? If so, what kind and was it worth it? has it made a big difference?

Today I replaced front oranges with yellows; even the softest setting is stiffer. I still have oranges in rear, they feel well balanced with front yellows.

I'm running the exact combo oranges and prokit. Totally loving it.

Anyone on pro kit springs with oem struts/shocks as their setup? How is it? Is it a bad idea to have this combo?

It will wear out your stock stuts faster than regular springs. Some people do it without problems to. It may be Easiest and cheapest in the long run to put lowering springs in when you have to replace the OEM shocks/ struts. One install.

I ran Prokits with the OEM shocks/struts for like a good 8+ years before the struts went, and they ran and felt awesome even to the end....Very nice ride and excellent cornering.

Thanks for the input! One more thing...what are good brands for lowering springs if on a tighter budget? (Like around $300-350 max)
