I'm trying to firm up whether to replace my struts with Koni Str.t's or FSDs but I'm thinking of keeping the stock springs. I'd like a little bit more out of my suspension so that's why I'm going with the Konis but I'm not really sure I want to go with lowered springs - I do a lot of winter driving up north half the year - Its not something I want to have t worry about. My question is how can I tell if my springs are OK? Do the stock springs ever need replacing? I have about 145000kms on my Gen 1 right now. I've also heard lowered springs can void you insurance too -.

From what Ive read many have upgraded their struts while keeping the stock springs

You don't have to replace your springs when replacing your shocks. Many throw prokits/ whatever in while replacing shocks because you have to remove them anyways for the install.
If your car is feeling overly wobbly and you want to cut down on a bit of body roll: then replace the springs. If not: keep your OEMs. The drop on prokits is minimal and shouldn't give you any issues in the winter.
