Has anyone used this product? Is it any good? It says the writing surface is purple, does this affect the ability of standard DVD players from reading it? Where do you guys usually get your DVD media and how much does it usually cost?

I\'d really prefer jewel cases with the DVD\'s but this seems like a great price.

Just before the Labour Day long weekend Futureshop ran a sale on a spindle of Memorex 4x DVD-R and 4x DVD+R media for $25. I had used their 4x +R media in the past with my LG-4040 drive with great success. This time around I opted for -R media and bought myself 3 spindles. While searching the shelves I noticed the BenQ media at 4x and 8x. I was tempted to buy a small pack of 10 8x media just to try it out on my new NEC 16x burner, but having 3 spindles in my hand just seemed too gluttonous...of course, that still doesn\'t match a pack of 200. :D I\'d suggest buying a small pack first because I know burners can be quick finicky over the types of media that are being used. My NEC burns the Memorex 4x discs at 4x but will burn Maxell 4x +R media at less than than, probably 2.4x and I\'ve heard that it will even burn some 8x media at 12x. I remember having some \"problems\" with 4x Princo media only burning at 1x with my LG.

it really depends on your burner.. some are more compatible than others. unfortunately for my PX-708A the only good media was the memorex +R (RICOHJPN01) and Tayo Yudens but the latter are pretty expensive $2 apiece (except when i got a Maxel spindle of 25 for 30 bux.. wahoo :D and they were TY)

I would suggest trying blankmedia.ca

1) they are canadian :D
2) they have what they claim - they give you media codes of the DVDs
3) very competitive rates for good media
4) pretty quick and inexpensive shipping (unless u live in K-W area and can do a pickup)

Ps. I heard the benq media didn\'t really cooperate with benq drives.. w000t????
What burner do you have? som ebetter ones are nec2510a nec3500 pioneer108 (from what i hear :)

you can search the media brand and see which players it works on. conversely, if you go to the main page, you can do a search on your burner and see what media works for it.

Sweet! Thanks for the help guys. As long as the burner doesn\'t make coasters I\'m not overly concerned with the speed. It takes a while no matter what you do so an extra 5 minutes here and there doesn\'t concern me. :)

Just hope it doesn\'t burn them at 1x.

Also.. be very conscious about longevity/quality of the media. say you back up your wedding videos or your favourite home movies so that your kids don\'t use them as coasters, are you going to be satisfied if the media craps out in a year (or less) - all you\'ll have is memories. sux eh? :(

For those kinds of purposes (home made videos, pictures) i would use highest quality dvd blanks (Tayo Yuden) and make 2 copies of each - can never be too cautious.. what the hell put another copy on a HD :D you can get TY DVDs at ncix.com for a decent price.

as for regular movies and console backups, the \'normal/regular\' blanks may fit your bill, especially that you\'ll always have your originals, right? :sarc

EDIT: spelling/grammar
