So there's a weird rattling coming from the rear passenger side I my 2010 3. It's a weird rattling, like a shaking type rattling. I can't figure out what it could be. I got my shocks changed in the spring, as well as my sway bar links. Brought it in a couple weeks back and my mechanic told me the sway bar links had to be done again and as well as the bushings. It's still rattling... Any thoughts on what it would be?

Ps. I'm not much of a mechanic so I appologize for a stupid question.

Thanks!

Possible your rear brake pads, pull up your hand brake slightly when you are going over a bumpy section to see if the noise goes away.

But thing is, all my 4 breaks and rotors are brand new. :S

That doesn't mean a bolt or something could still be loose people sometimes forget to tighten things

Is it constant or does it only happen certain times? Are those certain times sporadic or is there a pattern (ie over bumps, when braking, etc)?

Did you check your oem jack or extrawheel or the tools in the trunk if they are loose?

It's more than likely your rear brake pads rattling, do what I suggested. My car only started doing the same thing once I installed the new pads.

Check the fuel door release cable.. find it running behind the rear seats. Put some duck tape over it. Might fix your issue. We have a few with this noise at mazda would rattle when going over bumps

I would assume the same....a loose clip. OP doesn't have to use the handbrake though. Just drive over some bumps and apply the brakes lightly and release several times and listen. If it's a loose clip it'll sound off with brakes released and not make any sound with brakes applied. Either that or check the obvious loose jack or something in the back.

Thanks for the help guys. Tried a few of your tips but still no luck. Checked my jack, tools and tire in the trunk, but everything is in place. Ill bring it in to get the brakes checked out to make sure. Its a pretty annoying rattle, which occurs only over bumps. :S

by rattling do you mean clunking? because it might be sway bar bushings.

I brought it in to get the rattling checked and my mechanic said that's what it was. Got them changed 2 weeks ago and its still rattling. That' why I'm so confused. I will have to bring it back in.

Turns out they took everything a part and did not find anything. Everything looks perfectly fine. They even took the time to look all over in my trunk. I'm assuming its probably a piece somewhere on the inside that makes noise every time I hit bumps. Nothing major. But really annoying... I guess I will live haha. Thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated.

Well I guess it's good that you know there's no real issue. Just do what you do for any other annoying sound that comes out of a Mazda, and crank the music up! :thumbsup haha
