View Full Version : Can't Remove Caliper Retaing Wires on Rear Brakes

Doing rear rotor and pads this week but the retaining wire wont come out of the caliper.
Is there a trick or method to get them out? All the videos I see shows them popping out quite easily, but I don't want to spray any anti-seize stuff on the caliper if I don't have to.
Any suggestions?

So you tried using a flathead screwdriver to pry it off?

they are kinda "hooked" in the holes. i have great luck with using pliers and pulling them straight out from the ends. prying them out does work in some cases, but since yours are so stuck in there you might bend them out of shape
you can also give it a tapping it a bit to try and free it up before pulling it out.

are you referring to the tabs that hold the pad in the piston? They are in there pretty good! Give em a pry with a good screwdriver and they will come out.

are your calipers painted? if the wire is painted too, it could just be stuck in there... spraying a lil bit of brake cleaner might loosen the paint

have you tried grabbing the spring with some needle nose pliers to pull it off?

Hope you've got them figured out already but if not.
Take a screwdriver and wedge it into the holes where the bracket tucks in. Take a hammer and give it one good whack, and then another in the middle of the bracket to come loose.
Had to do this on my Dakota as the clips were always a PITA to come out.
