View Full Version : Cabin Air Filter - Sensor/Connector Question

After watching a video of how to access the cabin air filter in 2nd gen I noticed there is a connector attached to the panel covering the cabin filter access. It looks like there is some kind of sensor to which the connector is connected to. Can anyone tell me what exactly this sensor reads and what the purpose of it is? My first thought was perhaps it was for air flow? There is no "change cabin filter" indicator on these cars so I'm not sure what exactly Mazda put the sensor there for. My car does not have automatic climate control (nor do I see what any reading at the cabin filter would do even if it did).

According to AllData it is your blower motor resistor, it makes the different fan speeds work to put it very simply.

Yep. Blower motor resister. It's there so that it always has air movement. It helps keep it cool and last longer. Common placement for most cars.

Had to replace 2 in other older cars I owned and they were both near the fan (for airflow)

I just changed my filter and noticed I did not have the resistor there (previous owner must have taken it out) To my knowledge the fan speeds work fine but going forward is this something I would need to replace? If so are they expensive?
