Hi guys, does anyone know a reputable / knowledgeable mechanic around the 519 area that won't rip me the average joe off? my car is throwing CEL code P0441 and its driving me crazy. :(
story time for you folks: i took my car to a small shop in brampton for diagnosis. The man said it was a small vacuum/vapor leak and it could be easily fixed. After hours of waiting in the lobby, i get frustrated as no words were exchanged after giving my key to him to take my car into the garage. I call the dealership that I bought my car from to see if it was covered under warranty and he said no. I've only had the car for only a week and it was already throwing a CEL so i fought it. After minutes of arguing, he said he would handle it and call the shop to give the service to me free of charge. Minutes after the call, the mechanic said my car was ready. I asked what he replaced, however he kept to himself, very quiet and seemed pissed off. It was also hard for me to understand what he was trying to say because of his thick accent but from what i could make it out, it sounded like solenoid. Anyways, at this point i was relieved it went away and drove off after being in the shop for almost 6 hours. 3 days later it came back on. I have a feeling the person just cleared the code and didn't replace anything; that's why i didn't get charged and got that sketchy vibe from this shop.
I've done some research online, and some may say its most likely the gas cap not being tight enough. However this is not the case, I've already replaced it twice just to make sure and cleared the code for both times. It still keeps coming back on. I also read somewhere that it might be a faulty purge valve/solenoid but i can't be 100% sure until a someone who is honest diagnoses my car to see what is actually up - and if the mechanic that i went to, ACTUALLY replaced it.
Based of my google search CEL P0441 is thrown by the possible reasons below:
-Bad vacuum switch
-Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister
-Open in PCM purge command circuit
-Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
-Faulty purge solenoid
-Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister
-Corrosion or resistance in purge connector
-Bad PCM
appreciate any help
