hey guys... and gals..

i have a quick question.. for those who commute from \'ssauga/oakville/burlington area (and anyone in between), what time do u leave your house and when do you arrive at your destination? any sepcial routes you take? same question on the way home..

i\'m just trying to gauge the feasibility of driving to work or maybe just to the GO station.. i live roughly at dundas and 3rd line and work at yonge and eglington.. so anyone with similar start/end points pls share your experiences..

this also would impact on when i would start/end work.. since it seems to be pretty flexible (within reason)

maybe my red rocket will replace the ttc soon ;) heh.. btw.. transit takes roughly 1.5hrs for me door to door each way.. thanks!

Geez, 1.5 hours each way...imagine all of the sleep that you can catch up on!

Totally time dependent.

I Leaving My House (Ford & QEW Area) at 7:30 AM, I didn\'t get to the Zoo (Meadowvale & 401 area) until 9:45 AM. Average speed being about 50 km/h

Working at the zoo tho, I had to be at the zoo for 6 AM. Leaving the house at 5, I was at the zoo by 5:35 AM. Average Speed was about 120 km/h. However, if I left the house at 5:15, I would just make it at the zoo at about 6:00 PM.

Starting at 5 AM, I\'d say every 15 minutes you wait, adds 10 minutes of travelling time.

bigest snoozes happen on the GO train.. ~ 25min.. oakville busses suck - drivers and the equipment alike.. (sorry felix ;) but seriously it\'s like they try to peel off the line and then brake last minute.. so it\'s always bounce bounce bounce.. here comes my breakfast.. and the TTC allows me for about a 10min nap :p

That\'s speedy service man ;) If you\'re in our shoes you\'ll know why.... we\'re just doing our best to get you guys on the train. You should proud of Oakville Transit\'s connection with the GO trains. We wait for late trains in the afternoon. In Mississauga, the buses pull out when the train pulls in.

I suggest you to take the GO. Express train only takes 25min from Oakville to Union, nothing can beat it. Then subway from Union to Eglinton - 15min.

It\'s a good deal on the Oakville bus as well, only $0.50 in conjunction with your GO ticket. No hassle to find a parking spot at the GO, and don\'t have to worry about thief or door dings. You don\'t want to leave your car for 8hrs at the GO lot.

There was a report on CBC a few weeks ago... this guy got his accord broken into 4 times in two months parked at Mimico GO Station.

I commute from Hamilton > Sauga every day.

Now that I start at 11 and finish at 7 I miss all the headaches. But when I was 8:45-5pm I would leave my house at 6:45 (to be on the hwy by 7) it was a good hour and a half in bumper to bumperhttp://www.vortexmediagroup.com/images/banghead.gif

Wow.. kudos to you guys for your dedication to your work. Mine was a 35 minute bike ride in the summer, or a 25 min bus ride :D

It was so much easier by car though -- 15 mins :p . Of course it was on the way to work that my car got written off... :sarc So that lasted a month.

I did not intend to bastardize the Oakville transit.. everywhere u\'ll see ups and downs.. like today.. the bus drive - i didn\'t notice any harsh braking or crazy acceleration.. everyone has their bad day right? ask me to give you some more mail space on a day that my dog dies and i\'ll delete your e-mail telling u u\'ve got more space now :D

unfortunately on MANY occasions to OT has not waited for my late train.. in a way i understand it - b/c the routes need to be maintained on some schedule.. but at the same time if the bus leaves empty, what revenue do you generate.. yeah.. i though so *nill*

also there\'s this one woman who REFUSED to let me on the bus after it left the go station and got stuck on cross avenue waiting for the light to turn.. i ran and knocked on the front door and she just shook her head :(

maybe it\'s in the rules.. but i don\'t know.. it just seemed like it would have been a nice thing to do, especially that all traffic was stoppped anyway..

the GO is pretty good to me now, i just want to see how feasible it would be to drive in. my buddies in the east end take about same time using public transit and roughly 1hr by car.. that\'s 1hr a day less spent on commuting

The 13 schedule is tight in the morning... and who\'s to blame if you guys miss your train? Not management but drivers!

If the bus is scheduled to wait for such a train (we connect to all express trains), we\'ll wait unless the train is VERY late. During non-rush hours we only wait 5min.

On Cross? So I assume the bus is waiting for the left turn on Corss (wow, you run pretty far) Nah.... we don\'t let people on in the middle of the road. Depends on the driver you might get lucky on Station Rd., but not on Cross.

Back then when I went to UofT (I live in Mississauga), the GO Milton Corridor worked perfectly for me. Sometimes I have class at 10am and the Gardiner still jams. It took me around 45-50min to get to campus. It might be 5-10min faster if I drive, but I would rather be on the GO bus sleeping or studying. I had a part-time job in the evening after school, so I took the opportunity for a nap on the bus/train. The parking fees at UofT is also a killer...

And in the afternoon the subway is definitely faster - 5min from Queen\'s Park to Union. My friend gave me a ride to Union once and I ended up missed my train home.... The train takes 20min to Erindale, where I get off. I\'m home within 1hr - no fuss and no stress at all.

Bronte GO has spots all the time, but you pay more from Bronte to Union.
Oakville GO.... it starts to fill up by 7:30. And in the afternoon it\'s a pain to get out.

seriously.. i sleep as much as i can when ppl aren\'t too loud.. and the parking is a ripoff, just like any downtown parking - 14bux a day still better than most (right on campus)

yeha.. but bronte is SO much closer to my house.. i\'ll see how much difference it would be driving to either place.. but first i need to buy the damn car.. :p

@oakville everyone just runs to their car.. it\'s like one of those bull races in spain :)

I edited my post... I thought you said Station Rd but you actually said Cross Ave. The 4:55 buses don\'t really wait for the train because there is another set at 5:05.

I think it used to be $13... is it $14 now?

Sometimes I passed out before my GO bus hit the Gardiner onramp... from the Bay and Front terminal.

Typical GO riders who drive.... Same thing at Bronte. That left turn from Wyecroft to 3rd Line is hell.

yeah.. but when the bus is stuck on cross ave and just waiting for the light to turn red AND it\'s NEXT to the curb.. i don\'t see a safety concern.. :(

oh well

and i got your PM but the friggin\' limit didn\'t let me reply..
i just like to stay abreast the current TM3 events :D

Takes me 10-20 minutes (one way) for my daily commute.....from Mississauga - Hurontario/Strathaven to 427/409 area.
I leave home at 7:30am and i\'m normally at work by 7:45-50 am.

That\'s ideal.... but then you mainly use the widest part of the 401 and then zip on the 427 before the bottleneck.
