View Full Version : Toronto Pan Am Games
A games with more viewing than the Winter Olympics is being hosted in our city and there hasn't been a peep about it
whoever was on their marketing campaign should find a new career path
Lol so true
Caught the end of the opening ceremony on TV last night. Looked pretty cool with the fireworks off the CN Tower. Why don't they do that more often for other occasions.
Apparently one of the events is happening today right by my house. So...roads should be...interesting

Oh they've been marketing it all over the radio for the past week and a half... But not the games itself... But instead of events associated to the games.
Also some ads are making a joke about the HOV frustration

The past week and a half is too late

I went to a soccer game tonight in Hamilton at Tim Hortons field, the whole upper section of the west stands was empty. And the bottom sections weren't even completely full. I feel like they did a terrible job of putting this out here. It's made my driving experience worse, and we can't even sell out a stadium of $25 a seat tickets?

I have seen many commercials and adds for the games over the past few months, not to mention the HOV lanes and please take public transit attitude to avoid traffic.
News regarding Pan Am has been plastared all over CP24 in the mornings when I have breakfast.
Side note: they used a good song in one TV spots: electric pow wow by a tribe called red.

Also I find it odd that they introduced HOV lanes all over the city for the games and then tell everyone "sorry no parking at most venues in the city".
I feel like this HOV bs has gone too far. They even narrowed Jane street south of highway 7 down to one lane for normal traffic and one lane is now HOV lane. The organizers have not thought this through properly. I heard there's a representative from the Olympic committee thats seeing how well these games are going to see if Toronto can be eligible for the 2020 Summer Olympics.... After seeing how we handle transportation around the games and the lack of a proper venue instead of scattering everything throughout southern Ontario.. Don't think that will happen.
Also heard that they don't plan on removing these markings and are just gonna let them " fade away" even after the games are done.

Take public transit to avoid these headaches [emoji14]
Sure... When the commute via transit is shorter than the one with driving.
I'm fortunate enough that the only venue I sometimes drive by is the one at york to visit a friends place. Guess I'll just avoid that area for a bit.

If you are trying to watch Pan Am this afternoon on TV, brush up on your French or Spanish. It's a shame there isn't a English speaking channel covering this for Rogers.
Diving was pretty cool, gymnastics is on now.
Damn I wanted to watch diving

Didn't want this to turn into a transit/traffic discussion
Thanks

Well Canada came 1st & 2nd in women's sping board final. Pretty good show, without the crazy hype of the Olympics.

Someone better try and break into an event and be thwarted by my fence or I'll be really annoyed I put it up in the first place. Just saying. Guys. Please. Just pretend like it does something...for me?

Tickets are 25 a piece for prelim's go watch some, 25 for 2 games, although you don't get re-entry into them if you leave between games.
Also, if you burn easy and are there for the late games, sit on the west stands, east sucked for the sun.

I went to Womens 10m platform diving which was cool. Unfortunately one of the athletes lost their form half way through the dive and hit the water on her back. Ouch!
Parking cost as much as the darn ticket! That was my only complain other than the event being a little short.
Gymnastics tonight!

Got tickets to a couple of events, it was pretty interesting. Lot's of activities buzzing around d/t. Every night at Nathan Phillips square they have fireworks shot off from Cityhall. Saw a couple of free concerts there. They also have a light show at the CN Tower every night. The fireworks that was shot off the CN Tower on opening day was incredible. They should do it every Canada's day.

I went to the opening ceremony, a swimming event, and going to the closing ceremony. These games have been so well staged so far.
