do any of you guys have any floor mats besides the mazda all weather mats.
I went to crappy tire on saturday and bought some, but the mat for the driver side
does not fit really good. lots of space. if you have some places or types of mats
let me know. :(

I plan to go to Cdn. Tire, buy mats and try to put them in before taking of all the packaging... so I can return them if they dont\' fit :p
I might go to crappy tire and buy some replacement carpeting, cut it to size to cover the entire area and use the OEM winter mats on top of that.

I was planning on doing the same thing Clem, once all that salt and s*@t get on your factory carpet it stays. Crappy tire has some good universal ones but I think Weathertech has the best mats but they\'re way too pricey.

what about the OEM all-weather mats that you can buy as an accessory? are they no good? someone said they didn\'t come with a lip so they don\'t keep the snow/water in andit goes all over. I would be looking to get mats as well so keep us posted with your findings! thx

black mats + salt stains (white) = ugly
My cousin has a set of clear winter mats that he uses in his car. They don\'t look too bad, but at least the salt stains won\'t be as noticeable as with black mats.

as long as the mats are rubber/plastic who cares? you can rinse them off and they\'ll be black again..

The factory all weather mats don\'t have a lip on them. So if you had a lot of slush it would overflow onto the carpet. They\'re still good enough for me because they fit properly not like these universal ones and they have the 3 logo on them.:D

i have the universal winter floor mats with lip all around. it keeps the snow inside even when its melted. its a great help to keep your carpet dry and clean. sad thing though is that the driver side dont actually fit. but im still happy with it protectin my original carpet. :)

Universal floor mats from Canadian Tire are good enough. Who really cares as long as they protect your interior from the water, slush and snow.
The OE Mazda all weather mats are the biggest rip off and I would never buy them. I bought the Premium floor mats for the front on sale from CTire ($15 each) and then the Rubber Queen floor mats for the back ($8 each). I am going to keep the mats in all season. I chose all black mats. Less than $50 I\'m done and ready for winter and every season.

A little off topic, but obviously the non Mazda floor mats won\'t need the clip on the drivers side, is it pretty easy to take out? I haven\'t investigated at all yet.
What I was going to do was physically take my existing mats into Canadian tire and see which ones had the closest fit and go with them. :)

I\'d use a flat head screw driver to pry the two parts of the clip apart.

looks pretty good.. on our accord we just put navy/black towels underneath where the mat didn\'t cover and they work pretty well and you can wash them and keep them clean..

Try Costco or Sam\'s Club if you have membership, you can get a set of 4 mats for about $35.

THE ones i got are ok but the mat on the drivers side does not fit right.
when you want to change gears, the clutch hits the mat and might cause the gears to grind when shifting.

Doc,
I still have the original carpet underneath but I put a plastic cover for protection and slide it under the front/centre console. Its just a role of plastic you get for your house walkways. This will prevent any water from getting on the carpet. I\'ve only done for the driver side and will have to do the same for the passenger and rear seats. There is also a piece of flexible cardboard underneath the winter mat I use for more protection since any water that makes it out of the map is absorbed by the cardboard. I\'m just following my dad\'s method of safeguarding his car for winter. He keeps his carpets mint.;)
where did you get that plastic? seems like a good idea

The plastic is the same plastic you buy in a roll at HomeDepot or other stores. People use them in house esp at entrances during the winter. The plastic will pretty much last forever. The set up you see in my car is what I have year round, I don\'t bother with carpets and always use floor mats.
I cut a hole where the floor mat clip is so that the plastic doesn\'t go all over the place.

I used those clear plastic on my previous car ... one bad thing about it is it \"breaks\" easily when temp. drops very low ..... but still it\'s a good extra protection ... i think i saw the clear plastic roll on sale at Cantire around $5-7 a few days ago ...

I got a set of 4 from Costco (2 front, 2 back) for about $40 a while back. They were by far much better than anything I tried from Canadian Tire. They were pretty huge, hand a \'summer\' and a \'winter\' side, and both sides were pretty decent. Only problem is when the \'reservoir\' area in the middle got full it started to spill off the back edge a bit. Also it didn\'t cover the clutch foot-rest. Here\'s a pic of what it looked like after a 9 months of use (I cleaned them out in Sept, this was taken June with no cleanout between). Kinda scary how much mud and sand you drag into the car with you over the winter :P

All-weather mats or not, I always put newspapers under the mats. When the newspapers get saturated with water and salt, take them out on a cold morning (when frozen), and put new ones down.

Thats not a bad idea! Probably not advisable to those who have the beige interior since the ink may wear off a bit on the carpet. Does the newspaper not freeze to the carpet though if its saturated? What about it making the mat slide around a fair bit?

I have always had dark interior, so I can’t say if the ink rubs off or not. I would avoid the coloured Canadian Tire flyers. I have never had the paper freeze to the carpet, and depending on the car/mats, the mat may move more freely, or stay put. My last car had a square plastic section under the drivers side, and the factory mats would slide when cold, making me land on my butt a few times, so I chucked those mats, and got rubber ones from Canadian Tire. The paper made an improvement for that car.

Those look like the \"Pants Saver\" type of all-season reversible mats? If so, I had a set for the front in my previous car but when I tried to move them over to the 3, they wouldn\'t fit (without cutting)...

I just bought a roll of carpet from Crappy Tire today. Any suggestions on how I would be able to measure and cut it to fit over the entire area? I\'m going to use the OEM winter mats on top of that.
I just picked up all 4 mats from wal-mart for $40. They have a good sized lip and should do the job. I took my stock mat in the store to see what size I would need. I checked Crappy Tire too but they were more expensive and didn\'t really have much more to offer. The lowest price I found there was approx $15 for (1) front mat. I would of ended up spending atleast 50+ dollars if I went that route. I am gonna vacuum my interior tomorrow and drop them in. i\'ll let yah know how they fit.
The mats were definately worth the cost. Our driver side has such a messed up mat though so no matter what you get it wont fit right without alot of customization. Well unless you like the OEm ones. I just have it laying down a little crooked and it doesn\'t interfere with the clutch. Worked out great.

I bought the same mats that RedRaptor has (by the way awesome 3-0 start) but I am having the same problem that MikeSpike has on the driver side, I tried to slide the mat as far back as possible and it seems like when I drive the clutch and break are hitting the mat. The mats are pretty thick, so I don\'t know if cutting them will help, any suggestions?

i bought some all weather mats at crappy tire but now i need to take that clip out (driver side) anyone attempted it? how did u do it? i don\'t want to have to dremel it off :sarc I even shaped the mats to fit, so it\'s just a matter of removing the clip.. lemme know.. thx
EDIT: i THINK that the AT has a different clip from MT.. b/c xenon said he can screw his in/out.. mine has no screw.. weird..

Is that a 2005 thing? Cuz back then I remember reading when picking up the car, remember to check if the carpet clip is installed or not. Quite a few people did not get it installed by the dealer during PDI.

The metal clip is held in with a plastic screw, undo the screw and the clip comes out. The plastic clip in the floor is like a \"snap closure\", just pry the top and bottom halves apart.
Picked up a set of \"all season\" mats from Wal-Mart for $18.xx + tax, they will be good enough for winter. I\'m just hoping they won\'t slide around like the plastic mats I had before; so damn annoying! The driver\'s side I had to clip on one of my old plastic mats because in the top-right corner, there was not much mat to \"catch\" the gunk that would drip off the accelerator/my shoe onto the floor...
I had just put these mats in so this set up has yet to be \"driving\" tested...

Won\'t that get in the way of the clutch, layering the mats like that?
I had the OEM winter mats for a few days but I returened them for a refund because they were getting in the way of my clutch. Now I just use a custom-cut piece of interior carpeting to cover the whole area, and have the stock mats over that.
Yup three layers... I really hate getting the base floor/carpet dirty... and nope, neither of my clutch, brake, nor accelerator pedal are affected by the mats. Purposely got my shoes in the snow this morning and stepped into the car to \"test\" out the mats too... ALL GOOD. :)

Since wtom brought it up, I recently changed my front wipers to a 22\" and a 18\" Motomaster Teflon winter set (the 1 piece ones). Work great! Also got the Motomaster Teflon (-45) washer fluid which also works great, even in our -20 Sudbury mornings. Huge improvement using both the winter wipers and washer fluid. Haven\'t bothered to change the back wiper yet, but may look into that if I find it isn\'t working adequately. So far so good...
Heya ZZG, sorry haven\'t responded your email yet :p

EDIT: Best $20 I\'ve ever spent on my car!
That $20 I spent at Wal-Mart last year was NOT well spent. After a few months my driver\'s side mat started tearing up. The rubber was of really cheap quality! Many of the ridges were splicing apart.
I spent about $40 at Wal-Mart to get the Pants-Saver brand reversible floor mats earlier this month and are using them now. They are the domestic-import compact car size, front and rear, and all fit very well. I\'ll take pics if anyone requests.
I keep it on winter-side up all year round.

me, i bought carpet at home depot for about $20 and just made my own all season floor mats (was only able to do front, back would cost me prolly another $10). i\'ll take pictures of it when I get home.
the carpet covers the whole area. the bottom of the carpet is rubberized so water won\'t sip through it. now i won\'t get my regular carpet dirty during winter and have to clean out those dried up salt marks after winter.

Does your homemade mat have a lip around the edge though? If not, it\'s quite likely that melted snow/slush could just roll off the edge and onto your stock mats/carpet.

I just grabbed the Michelin mats from Costco as seen by the pics by Michaelsoft.
To my surprise they were no longer 38.99 but instead 28.99 until Nov 13 for anyone who might be interested.
They are for a set of 4... black or grey.
I think they will do a good job for the winter... doesn\'t have to be pretty.

I bought the same mats from costco a while back so far they seem pretty good and they don\'t slide around at all
they cover the front really well but the back mats could be bigger, I\'m not too worried tho, no one ever sits back there.

I kno this thread was from a long time ago, but I'm having some problems with aftermarket floor mats.
I bought the floor mats posted above by Sabio, the Michellin ones.
But it's almost impossible to make it fit when your car is a manual. It's because when fitted like the pictures above, it's kinda hard to depress the clutch all the way.
Does anyone with a manual have mats that fit better then that?
I have the same Michelin mats (from Costo) and manual. I just cut the mat around the dead pedal and it fits, not perfect but it will last until spring!

Did you try that floor liner?
Does it fit MS3 as well?

The floor liner product looks like it could do a very effective job. However the price tag of $209.90 made me do a double take.

No, i didnt buy it after they refunded. but they called me up couple weeks ago said that liner is perfet fit for mazda3 this time, but i got speed already, i noticed a little difference between 3 and speed (gas pedal and died pedal). therefore i gave up.

I wrapped my stock floor mats with a heavy duty garbage bag and duct taped it in place.
Seems to do the trick.
I don't care to buy mats for it as this is the only winter this car is seeing....I'm getting a beater next fall and parking this guy.

Ditto, my eyes bugged out when I saw that.

I bought some winter floor mats at Costco about a month ago. Set of 4 cost about $40. I haven\'t tested them for winter, but they seem pretty good. They\'re made by Michelin and come in black or grey.

I have these, and they aren't that useful in some cases.
If you clean your mat often then these are fine.
The problem is that at the bottom of the mat (the side pointing towards the seat), the holes to hold water are too small. As a result, the salt-water ends up on the carpet.
I got these for $40 bucks (set of 40) at costco as well.
If you go to a coin-op car wash, just wash spray these with water, and these become an excellent mat

I regret buying the Mazda ones. They are too small and they don't even protect jack I would think slush wise.

Keep using your all weather mats, just come winter time.. cut out and make yourself a plastic liner out of Tyvek (the stuff they wrap houses with).

They work fine for me. Plus they look good too.

I have the same Michelin winter mats from Costco. I purchased a set 2 years ago for a previous ride, and I just swapped them to each car. Work great and definitley do the job.
I have the OEM all weather mats from Mazda, and they didn't do the job for me as slush and water went all over the place.

Bought mine when I lived in Winnipeg and we get a lot more snow compared to that of Ontario. The mats were ok but not great.

I just ordered a bunch of weathertechs from the US site. Bought three sets of mats and saved about $400.00. I dont understand why weathertech canada and usa have such a price difference.

My girlfriends parents live in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Like most border town people, they have a shipping address in Sault Ste Marie, MI. So I just shipped it to their shipping address. I also have a US credit card, so that may have helped as well. I just had my girlfriends parents pick up the parcel and bring it on over. They rarely have to pay duty.
I never tried just shipping it here, cause the border fees would be insane. But I did notice that I couldn't call the 1-800 number as it put me through to the canadian store. Very annoying. Just drives me nuts how the prices are so different. Clearly does not represent the actual cost of making the product.

This winter compared to last, has been fantastic for my carpet. I had salt stains in no time with the OEM All Weather floor mats. They're great except that they don't hold alot of water. This year I have the Weathertech mats and by far another great purchase that just keeps on increasing value in my eyes.
I've seen more dried salt on the inner walls of the mats, to appreciate the time required to remove the salt on my carpet had they not been there.
I generally speaking always tap my boots off before I jump into the car, to reduce the amount of water that pools but now who cares, I've heard the mats can hold a litre of water or some extreme amount. I've nearly tested this by being the car pool to Timmies for a week at work.
Highly recommend at least the front set of Weathertech mats, but I got the rears as well. The hump in the back I found was victim to salt/mud the most.

I find them very useful though I have a few salt stains on the sides which were unavoidable..

Not exactly... I've seen some use those mats and underneat stuffed some black towels which were then stuffed under the plastic side pieces. As soon as they get salty, take em out, throw them in the wash and they put em back in.
Myself.. I'm still using the Tyvek lining trick, still haven't gotten a single salt stain.

How do you remove those damn mat hooks on your mazda3? I'm trying to install my Michelin mats that I got from crappy tire but can't seem to find a way to remove the hooks installed originally...

+1 on the weathertech mats. I just ordered them for my 2010 speed3 and have had them in my 07GT and RX8 now. Best mats money can buy.

I have to agree, those Weathertech floor liners are fantastic. They look OEM save for the non-Mazda logo. You can get just the front ones for $120, which is what I did because my rear seats exist purely for the sake of insurance premiums.
Of course, my car is new. If your car is older I can see why you wouldn't want to spend that much on mats that only fit one model of car.

I'm going to make my own somehow, make it real deep 1.5-2" and fit tight all around. I used to install flooring, so I got some mad skillz to take advantage of. I just haven't figured out what material to use...maybe that carpet liner (runners) that grandmother's put in their house. then I could plastic weld and silicone the edges
hmmmm.... I think gots somethin' now. When I do it, I'll post... but it'll be a couple weeks probably

I was also thinking about making my own; I sew, so I figure I could go to Fabricland and get a nice piece of vinyl and sew it to the exact size I need it...
Sounds easier than it will actually be I'm sure, but once it's done, I won't need to buy another one for a *very* long time. =)

$120 for weathertech digitalfit floormats is better than dealing with dirty and disintegrating carpet. My friend's brother has a Mazda 3 with cheapo floormats from Canadian Tire, his carpet has a hole right above the brake pedal.... which is directly underneath the floormat and should be protected. Go figure. Oh yeah, and he has a ton of salt stains he has to remove with a stiff wire brush.

I do... not exactly sure what difference you're expecting from the mats with the different transmissions.
