Mazda3 2012 6 speed

Hi Everyone:

I just acquired a 2012 Mazda3. Its a hatchback with 60,000km, 6 speed manual.

I noticed that when I start the car, it revs up fast , and then the rpm's and engine quiets down once I shift the car to move. Similarly, I've noticed that when I'm shifting down from 3rd to 2nd gear, the engine seems to rev up before quieting down.

This is my first Mazda so I'm not sure what is normal for these cars?

Anybody had this problem or have suggestions as to what it could be or what to do next?

Sky-active engine normally loud, Mazda3 aint no toyota corolla im pretty sure thats normal.

Just curious, how much experience do you have driving manual? When downshifting its normal for the engine to rev up once you've dropped the clutch, it's called Engine Braking.

Its also normal when starting the engine cold for it too rev up too fast idle, anywhere from 1500 rpm to 2000 in some cases. It'll settle down to around 1000 rpm in a bit. I suggest you wait for it to settle before driving off.

Thanks for your reply. I drove Hondas with manual transmission for years and never noticed these noises/rev up when downshifting.

I'll keep an eye on the rpm's.
