As the title states they're looking to make it "oem or illegal" please sign this petition and share it with everyone you know.

Source? I don't believe that for a second. That means the parts all garages sell would suddenly become illegal.
I tried to find the source myself, and came up with nothing aside from the change.org petition and one or two forum posts quoting the change.org petition.

I went thur the pdf quickly. Nothing really specific saying OEM or illegal. One thing I actually like is no HID PnP kits in Halogen reflector housing.

the PDF is dated October 2015. Already in effect for the Safety Standards Cert

so instead of fixing my broken oem part with a quality after market part that is half the price of an oem replacement... im gonna keep the broken oem part on and have a less safe car on the road... thereby making things safer?

Read the PDF. In nearly all cases it simply states parts must "meet OEM or industry standards" in regards to the function they are performing. This "OEM or illegal" phrasing is grossly misrepresenting what it actually days.

That wasn't there earlier, and I did find that on google earlier, but

Nothing really specific saying OEM or illegal.
not to mention

the PDF is dated October 2015. Already in effect for the Safety Standards Cert
so in conclusion

This "OEM or illegal" phrasing is grossly misrepresenting what it actually says.

:D
Case closed, with quotes.

Geez, page 8 covers this.

“OEM standard” – means the manufacturing methods, component and
assembly quality levels, and performance levels set by the manufacturer of a
vehicle or vehicle component to ensure a vehicle is able to perform safely as
intended. It includes component quality, performance levels, repair methods,
durability, safety and the service methods outlined in the warranty and service
literature provided for the use and maintenance of a vehicle. Parts supplied by
OEM, and established aftermarket manufacturers of parts intended for direct
replacement of OEM parts, are generally considered to meet OEM standard

FD22

If OEM stood for Obsessively Excessive Maintenance, then yes :loki

But yea, I don't think a lot of people actually read into this thing. As soon as it came out everyone just started sharing it on social media and freaking the hell out.

Is plastidip considered OEM?

Page 72:

welded, modified or plastidipped in a way
that does not meet OEM standard or
industry standard
- bent, broken or cracked plastidip
- perforated or separated plastidip due to corrosion between mount and frame member plastidip
- plastidipped rusted or corroded to a depth sufficient to become weakened

Sorry 'Murican FD22. Your ride will be street illegal on January 1, 2016 in Ontario.

I was wondering when this thread would pop up. Spreading like wildfire. I was reading this last night, got bored before I finished though so maybe I missed something. Heard spacers will be illegal and from what I've read, before getting bored, nothing really else. Doesn't change any of my modding plans.

I cant see the gov imposing OEM or Illegal anyway cause it would probably dip into their ticket revenue. Plus all the companies it affects. But dumber things have happened.

It would be good to read the sections and see what applies to you....

-section on ride height.... Can't be above/ below OEM.

-Horn- not identified as horn if not OEM... My poor Hellas

Stretched tires / anything that doesn't meet OEM. 18s are out :P.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Nope, that restriction only applies to OEM air suspension.

For static suspension, the ride height can't be more than 25mm different measured side-to-side, it can't be so stiff it doesn't move (lol @schmat66 (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/member.php?u=13236)), and the tires can't contact the body or suspension (this was already a regulation in place). There is no actual height restriction compared to OEM settings - although you could argue they should be there, given new crash tests are required for new OEM models when they come with different ride heights (like performance variants such as the MS3).

Will Toronto Police inforce this? Or just the MTO(Security) enforcement unit, i see their vehicles look like cop cars.

Toronto cops likely won't give a ____. I'm interested if they have already pulled someone over for a traffic violation, then start pinning more stuff on afterwards. Tint ect.

Yes, this change won't mean anything to Toronto cops, they can pull you over already for Tints, Yellow fogs, exhaust etc. Just dont always drive like a dick to give them a reason to pull you over. Adding more changes won't do anything other then add more laws in a book.

Sigh.

Read.

This document is an updated guideline on the rules and requirements of issuing/obtaining an Ontario Vehicle Safety Standards Certificate. This is not the Highway Traffic Act.
