I was watching this video and he said that on turbo cars mostly speed3 and focus st, when we floor on 6th gear having low rpm we can blow the motor ? is this true ? i have done that multiple times already but if its true i will always downshift and never gather boost on 6th gear. please let me know what you guys know about this. i have had my speed3 for about 3 months now so i am trying not to blow it right away, cant afford that right now. thanks.

Have you read anything about our fuel pumps? That would probably be your best place to start reading on this subject.

If you haven't upgraded your HPFP I would probably avoid going WOT in 6th gear if you're under 3k rpm but that just me.

you don't want to floor the car applying that much load at low RPMs in the tallest gear

that should be common sense

Someone once said; "Common sense is the least of the senses" ; )

Depending on what speed/rpms your doing, its usually suggested; Whilst cruising, you drop a gear then accelerate, to accelerate. Unless your in a snottomatic.

Why would you want to floor it on 6th gear at low rpm?

i was always above 3000 on 6th. so i guess i was good. i obviously downshift all the time, its the best thing to do anyways. thanks guys

You know there's this tiny computer call a ECU under the hood? And that your car can't operate without it? And that one of it's job is to control things so the engine don't self destruct?

I think you are worrying too much. It is possible to do something to kill your car for sure by being stupid, but asking the computer (it is a throttle by wire system after all) for more power at low RPM shouldn't be one of them.

The root cause is a phenomenon called Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI).

LSPI, which results in Superknock, is auto-ignition before the spark but not early enough to melt the piston. It happens close to the spark event and causes massive knock afterwards. Damaging knock.

The other interesting fact about LSPI is that it happens at low engine speeds and high loads which is a common condition when passing on the highway, for example. Below is a graphic showing the knock in the cylinder just after LSPI occurred:

I think flooring it in 6th gear has more to do with rods that fuel pumps.

Damaging the car going wot in higher gears has to do with the engine's weak rods. I doubt it has anything to do with the fuel pump
