View Full Version : At lease end - Factory Bluetooth hands-free broken, do I need to fix it?

I took over a 2012 Mazda3 GX. I'm about 3 months away from my lease end and I plan on returning the car to Mazda. Recently, the factory Bluetooth hands-free completely stopped working on me, it disappeared from the menu and the hands-free button doesn't work at all. I thought all it needed was a factory reset, so I tried it and to no luck. I took it to a dealer and they took a look at the system. They told me the Bluetooth system was fried, that the warranty on the BT was up (even though the car's warranty was good to lease-end) and I would have to replace the whole thing - $900 at the dealer or $300 for an aftermarket one.

Being 3 months from returning the vehicle, I'm not particularly attached to getting this done. Anyone know if this will be an issue when I go and return the car? Does the lease-end inspection include the Bluetooth hands-free?

Any advice would be great :(

What warranty is on the car? Mazda MAP, third-party?

Yeah really...

Was the Bluetooth OEM? or aftermarket? If you had Map, it should cover it.

I don't recall Bluetooth being an option on the 2012 GX model line.

If this was a factory option, consider disconnecting the battery for at least 30 minutes to reset things and reconnect to see if everything gets fixed. A short disconnect will not work.

My 2012 GTE had a similar issue that a battery disconnect to reset should have fixed things.

Given that the dealership has looked at it you might be out of luck if the vehicle is out of warranty and you intend on returning it. The problem could be picked up on return inspection or totally over looked.

It really is the luck of the draw on who does the inspection and whether or not the vehicle is purchased back by the dealership for resale or goes off to the auctions.
