i know people have already discussed this but i haven\'t seen many pictures yet. so can you pls tell me what tint you got (% wise), where you got it done and attach a photo pls.

I am planning to go 30% all around on the hatch. i feel like 20% might be a bit too dark for the night driving (especially backing up) as well as for the cops. I am also planning on getting it done at FX Auto.

Warren, i think u went with 38% first and then 30% you like that better? would u go darker?

what if i got the sides at 30% and the rear hatch at 20%.. anyone thoughts? and pls pix :D

Majic,

Here are pictures of my car with tint done at FX Auto.

Front 35% Rear 20% with Premium Film

-Wanted to keep the Front 35% which is the legal limit in Ontario but 20% all around looks better. Just personal preference I guess.

ok.. bluntman.. we know u love that pic.. :D but i can\'t tell much about the tints (how they look from the side especially) thx for trying :p

RedRaptor, i figured 30 and 35 is a slight diff and if i do 30 all around it might look ok.. not too dark yet some privacy.. thx!! btw.. i think i saw you at 9:15am on yonge southbound (near lwrence i think)

If you want to talk to someone who has 30% all round, talk to \"chaser\" and ask him to show you some pictures of his car. I was there the same day at FX Auto as him and he decided to do 30% all round. It looks good, but if you want \"real\" privacy, you have to go 20%.

RedRaptor sighting? Yup. Thats my route to work everyday so that was definitely me. :hoho

Dang man reading your sig and your present posts, you\'re going through everything I went through when I was anxiously awaiting delivery of my first 3. :)

Yeah, originally 38% all around (i\'m not a fan of two-tone tints) and felt it was too light. The 30% is still a bit too light to me but I\'m much happier with it compared to when I had the 38%. From the inside, everything is perfect (on 30% all around). Not too dark, no worries of reversing. I wouldn\'t go darker though mainly because of cops and possible mishap in night time driving/reversing. :p

Both times I went to FX Auto and got the Comfort film (not Premium).

EDIT: No photo because honestly, photos do not help at all. We should meet up sometime, somewhere... you, MajesticBlueN, myself, and anyone else... to compare tints/film.

like wtom said, photos don\'t help. these photos are with the moonroof shade open and the sun almost directly overhead....and, yes, i do have 20% all around

i\'d love to if i get it early enough before the 20th and if you guys wouldn\'t mind.. i know pix don\'t do justice.. i saw yours on imagestation and the 30s looked better than 38s but that could have been subjective and the light angle and all..

My tint is similar to Majestic\'s. 22% all around, check my sig, I\'ve got a ton of shots in different lighting situations, some look dark, others not so much.

My personal preference is to stay the same colour all around. If you\'re worried about \'the man\', stick with 30% all around. I wouldn\'t go any lighter than that, otherwise it\'s just a waste of $$ IMO.

Yes, i\'ve 30% around from FX. Driving at night is not a problem at all. I perfer darker for more privacy but i don\'t want to go beyond the limit.

30%/20% is possible but not recommanded since 30% comes with comfort and 20% comes with premium. Premium looks more metalic than comfort.

Agree with Warren, pics don\'t really help. You better look at actual tinted cars.

One concern i\'ve when driving at night with dark tint up front. I see the reflection of the side fans\' silver ring easily when i tried to look at the side mirrors.:sarc

I initially had concerns with night visibility and went with 35% premium. I should\'ve gone with 20%...way more privacy.

Fabian hat 20% on his 3, it was way to dark for me. Remember, closing the sun shade (if your have the moonroof option) in addition to the dark interior will make your tint look darker.

Yeah I hate nosey drivers who always look over and they STARE... hehe

Hmm, a mini meet... to check out tints? Would you prefer day time or night? If day time, it would only be this Saturday or Sunday that I can make it.

majic; first car too eh? yeah same with me... it\'s all fun :)

I think comfort is half and half (meaning half dye and half metallic, whatever that means!) ... and premium is all metallic ... it reduces heat penetration, but is more mirror-like when looking in from outside of the car.

my pics ... yeah I did a side-by-side compare with the pics of my car with 38% and the present car with 30% ... all things were not equal, outside of the tint %. :(

chaser; don\'t scare yourself... hehe, watching The Grudge... start to see the EYES in the reflection of dark tints from the inside... AHHHHHH :)

I\'d say, if you\'re a constant nose picker or drive around naked, do US a favour and get the 20% all around! :D

I like to keep mine open. Most of the time I use my moonroof as an extra window to let more light into the interior.

Remember the fronts will end up looking lighter anyway because the windshield is tint free and lets in more light. 90% of the time night driving is not an issue for me, out of the city where there\'s not a whole lot of streetlights it\'s pretty dark.

Majic, i\'ll leave my car at FX on Thurs after 1.30pm for rustproof. I think it\'ll take at least 2 hrs. You may check out how 30% all around looks like if you\'re close by.

Anyone from Guelph brought his/her GT to FX for tint today? when I talked to Wayne today, he\'s very surprised that he/she drove all the way from Guelph to Toronto for tint :hoho good choice :D

Hey Chaser

I saw your car today! It\'s the tit-grey hatch right? I dropped by FX today to check out what kinda tints they have and learn some more, and Wayne showed me your car. I gotta say 30% is very nice all around, and nice shift knob haha.

chaser
11-12-2004, 12:29 AM
yes keving, mine is t.grey hatch ... with momo shift knob :D i like the knob which is a bit shorter and heavier than stock (stock is already very good)

What does a heavier shift knob add to the \"feel\" of shifting? Does shifting become easier? How so? I mean like, can you shift with your pinky if you have a shorter throw heavier shift knob? Sorry to ask you, but what quality tint did you pick and what was your $$? thanks chaser!:p

Another thrumbs up to FX!!
When i picked up my car from FX today, I mentioned to Wayne that there are tiny metal-like dust on the hood couldn\'t be removed by hand wash. He took out a clay bar, watered the hood and wiped the hood with the clay bar. Amazingly, most of the dust (now i know it\'s called paint contamination) was gone!:hoho Wayne even waxed the hood and cut a piece of the clay bar for me!!
Excellent service :D

if less effort means easier, then yes, heavier shift knob helps you to shift easier (F=ma??:sarc ) if you have short throw, i think you need to push/pull harder (some torque theory??) ... thus, ppl who installs short throw should get a heavier shift knob ... correct me if i\'m wrong ... maybe \"methodyst\" and others who have short throw can answer this ....
but one think i\'m pretty sure is if we keeping talking about shifting here, the OFF THREAD sign will come up very soooon ... :p

oh, my tint is comfort since 30% only comes in comfort. i paid $225 for it.
