last week my wife mentioned to me that her Mazda 3 was making weird noise. Kinda like birds chirping or a partially frozen water bottle rubbing up on something.

I take the car for a ride and can definitely hear something, actually very annoying. Will have to run my the video on my phone to capture it.

I initially thought it was the inner door panel of the rear left passenger door. I removed everything from the car, even the spare tire and jack to eliminate anything in the boot rubbing.

Noise was still there. I then asked her to take me for a ride, I sat in the back and as she was heading down the road. I can hear that the noise is emanating from the rear deck panel. I put my hand on it and applied some pressure and the noise stopped.

Anyone else have this issue? I wonder if a panel clip got broken somehow and the panel is now loose? No broken clips laying around in the boot.
How many clips should be visible from in the boot? I think I see only 3.

I tried putting a length of pipe insulation between the panel and the base of the window, that did not fix the noise issue. To remove that panel, I'd have to practically remove all of the rear interior panels just to remove the deck panel.

I'll get a sound clip and a pic or two from in the trunk, I hope someone can chime in and tell me if I'm missing a clip or not?

My last thought would be to go to home depot and buy a can of expanding foam and spray it under the panel to fill the gap and hope that stops the noise.
