2014/Gen 3 Mazda 3 - Rear Brake Seized

I have a 2014 Mazda 3 Auto ~34k km on it so far, went to drive it yesterday and noticed it "dragging" as if the parking brake was still engaged. Called the dealer and they said it was not an uncommon issue with my type of vehicle and that he could temporarily fix it by forcing the brakes free on the rear end. However parts are on back order from Mexico and that I would have no parking brake until they arrived and were replaced.

Just wondering trying to figure out how common this issue is.

I understand that and I know that Canadian winters (and Nova Scotia in particular) can be hell on vehicles however this is a slightly below average mileage (kilometrage?) car that has been in for dealer servicing at their interval requirements. The service manager's response to my initial call made me seem like it was a common problem with the brakes on this particular year and/or generation.

Well then. The first couple of words should have been the reason why brake service should be done and lubricate the components of the breaks.

It doesnt matter if its the norm or not, a lot of members in the forum always put that extra work in their vehicles past the "dealership intervals".

I have about 85k kms on my 2014 and I havent had or heard of any issues, I also performed the rear brake service at 80k for peace of mind. The key words in your post is "parking brake". If its automatic and you never use it, it may cause problems.

I have a 2014 with around 28k Kim's and I've also never had this problem but I do regularly use the parking brake.

If your car was made in Japan (JM1) then it could be the following TSB. I believe that this would limit it to GT models unless some non-GT's were ever made in Japan. The TSB applies to 2014-2016 models.
