Hey, little back story. I had a Mazda Protoge 5 for a week. Got it from my uncle in-law a year ago as a wedding gift. Turned out it had a rotted frame. Ended up buying a 2000 Honda Accord and banged that around for about 1 year.
About a week ago, my in-laws decided to go to Barrie for a car auction to buy a Pickup truck. They picked up a 2007 Mazda 3 GX for 950 bucks instead and gave it to us.
Its pretty well stock at the moment. I don't plan on doing many performance mods to it since its not a 5 speed and it has a 380000Km on it. But i do plan on keeping the car looking nice and doing modifications to the body and visuals.

That being said, i do have 1 HUGE pet peeve about the car. when I'm in Triptronic mode (manumatic?) it up shifts no problem, nice and smooth, when i downshift (to say pass someone) it works without an issue. BUT if i let my RPMS get low it will auto downshift. not all the time, just often enough to make me look dumb.
IE
1) In the parking lot, ill be in 2nd gear cause 1st is really short and kinda aggressive for a parking lot. but it will put me into first when at a stop sign, and then i launch myself as if i was going for world record time through the intersection.

2) coming up to a stop light in the street, ill be downshifting, and just as im about to go from 3rd to 2nd, it will do it for me, and ill end up going 2nd to 1st and everyone lunges forward from the engine breaking.

HOW DO I TURN OFF the "assisted Shifting"? Its the only thing i can think to call it.
other than that, really fun car :D

You can't turn off assisted shifting. This is to avoid lugging.

Like a new relationship, you're going to have to learn to deal with your new girl's quirks. Enjoy and congrats :)

well that kinda sucks.
anywho, i checked over the site. is there a list of parts from say mazda3 gen pu (haha) and gen 3 (or Mazda 6 and P) that will fit my Mazda Gen Juan?
theres a scrap yard where mazdas just roll in on a daily and i can probably pull parts every other day if i wanted

I'm not confident that anything from a gen 3 is going to work on a gen 1 but I have seen in a few posts that there are some items from a gen 2 that work on a gen 1. Your best bet will be to deal with the situation on a "part-by-part" basis :)

thanks for the heads up.
I'm pretty familiar with forum crowds. Got into it with my 1996 FZR 600 i bought when i was 17 and it needed work, that i could barely afford to do myself. tried the Honda forums when i had my Accord, but it wasn't very . . . welcoming, for people who didn't think V-tech was the best thing in the world. I mean its not BAD, it doesn't HURT the car. Its KINDA like a turbo, all the lag just no boost :P
on a solid note, ill probably be popping in and out. just got an extension on my contract with RBC so i might actually have some extra money to throw at the car sooner.
