So I bought a K&N intake for the 2015 Mazda 3 gt. I was told it would have little to no drone sound( I'm not sure what drone means tbh)I just didn't want loud obnoxious sound. I wanted to sound like the new miata. It does sound like it... but the sound tone is way to inconsistent. Is there a way of not installing this kit correctly. I made sure we followed the instructions. As the gear head just want to go right to it(my gfs dad). My gfs dad who use to be a small mechanic said there isn't really a way to **** it up. Even he thinks the sound is off(inconsistent). We thought the sound would have a linear sound. I hope I'm not being to confusing. If I need to send a video I can.

Edit. My gf took her mom, dad, and our son to Kingston yesterday while I was at work. They didn't want to get me all worried while I was working. The engine light came on. It said Engine System Malfunction - have the vehicle checked by a dealer immediately. The gfs dad rechecked everything. I trust his experience and for honestly something so easy to install I'm shocked. He said when I get to work to get the guys to check it. They reset the battery terminal again. And everything went away. Nothing has come back on. Drove another 400 km and no light reappearing. They just didn't want to tell me till I drove it this morning. Hard to say how I'm thinking after I drove it this morning. Nervous about the car is the feeling I have. I guess I will have to wait till Monday to get the system checked. Any input is really appreciated

I must be blind, but is the MAF hooked up?

Also, if its anything like the old Mazdaspeed intake the turbulent air going by the MAF will trigger a CEL. The Mazda & Corksport intake have a air dam to calm the air down as it passes by the MAF.

The maf is on just on the other side out of sight. I guess it is what it is. Sport mode seems to take out the hiccup growl. And really only noticeable in lower speeds. I think you maybe on something when talking about the CEL(not sure what CEL is.).This is a little bit of karma, as I was to use any extra money to get the speed3 running. I'm sick today... but when I go into work tomorrow. I'll have them check everything. Thanks so much guys. I do feel a lot better about the situation.

When my youngun put his K&N on the '09 Mazda3, reconnecting the MAF stretched the cable just the teensiest bit. But it was enough that the constant movement of the K&N piping on engine revving caused excessive strain, and he started to get CELs related to the MAF. We finally discovered that one of the pins on the connector had been pulled out. After a couple of attempted repairs, we ended up going to a U-pull and snipping the connector off another car and wiring into the car (solder & heat-shrink) with an extra 6" of wire for strain-relief. Maybe check your MAF harness and see if it's too tight. Run the engine and watch as somebody revs it, and see if it looks like there's *any* stress on that wiring/connector at all.

Update. So got the techs to look at it. Was told everything is OK. Ran the Mazda test on it and everything was fine. Was told if I wanted the low gurgle hiccups. I will have to do a tune. My tech said it has to do with the back pressure going to my exhaust as well. I asked him everything that was posted by you guys. Thanks again. I now have to see what exhaust would fit my driving style.
