These things dont compliment the car at all. I like the ones that VW\'s have. So my question is... is there any aftermarket side markers for our cars available yet? Something like these: (or the smoked ones)

There are a ton of side marker lamps out there, just not thats is for a mazda 3. I would think that any of them would work it would just be a matter of if the screw holes lined up, if you had to drill new ones ect. It can be done though.

The stock ones are a PITA to remove. It includes having to peel back the wheel well liner, reaching up to behind the side marker and \"squeezing\" the retainer clip. I haven\'t changed my side markers, I just remember the instructions for the chrome side marker trim pieces.

I dunno about those instructions but Ive taken out my side markers like 20 times already. You just slide it to the left and pull it out. Then its very easy to remove from the wiring. Im gonna get a hold of some VW ones and see how the connectors are. Im sure they are different but worth a look. Maybe I can McGyver something.... or shop around and see if there are any from the Protege\'s available since I would gaurantee have the same connectors.

you wont be able to use the VW ones unless you cut your quarter panel. The VW markers are sub set being put flush with the body as ours only stick out on top with a slight hole in back.

I was looking into that too ;) Planning on waiting until summer probably until I change them. But I must say alot of them out there look pretty ricey. They all got like 3 leds or something weird. I am just trying to find a different shape kinda like the ones people have put on in japan. I got a pic somewhere will post it if I can find a source.

ok ok.. Pics are up....
Couldnt stand the \"WHITE\" side markers so I took it into my own hands. Pics dont really do justice but it flows a lot better with the rest of the cars smoked theme.
and yes the car is dirty I just couldnt wait to take pics. Will post more day time ones;

That stupid side marker stands out like a sore thumb on a black car. So now its smoked (ie like the headlights and tail lights)

They came on your car ;)
Other colours in what sense? I smoked them myself.. so if there is a smoked paint available in different colours then the answer would be yes :D

And we cannot get different colour bulbs because it is a whole unit. You cannot take it apart. But then again its plastic and maybe you can McGyver something

Go to a hobby store and pick up a Testors tinting spray:

http://www.a2zhobbies.com/pictures/Tes2949.jpg

1. Clean with alcohol
2. Apply in few light coats every 10 mins or so till desired tint is achieved
3. I slightly sanded it with fine grit when it was dry
4. CLEARCOAT

Does that stuff come in different colours? Some people on MZ3F.com have been wanting to colour the lenses on their foglights to yellow.

MAZDA Kitten

I wouldnt use that on fogs.
Best thing to do is use yellow LAMIN-X.

Not a good idea to paint the fogs, trust me.;)

One owner bought a yellow or amber (vinyl?) overlay for a Protege instead. It fit, with or without modification I don\'t think he mentioned.

Get the JDM yellow fogs from japanparts. :D

Very expensive though. :(

That looks cool... but I think it would only really complement a black car (IMO).

I for one LOVE the side marker, simply because stupid people that hover in your blindspot can see when you signal.

oh I love them too. Dont get me wrong I think they should be standard on ALL cars in NA (like Europe and Japan) however I was just saying the white stood out too much on my car. Even the design of it could be much nice but we\'ll have to wait for aftermarket ones to come out. :)

I know I\'m bumping a dead thread but I just had a few questions about smoking my side markers.

Would I have to actually remove the side markers from the vehicle to paint them? (sounds kinda stupid but I\'ve never seen them done before and never read a \"how to\" on it. :() -- checking M3F, I guess I would have to. damn.. gotta go through the manual to find out how to remove em.

Basically from the instructions, I just spray paint the outside housing?

The reason I ask is I also have a black 3 and other than looking to smoke the side markers, I want to smoke the 4 stripes of light reflectors that are on the back bumper.

thanks..

Pretty much any hobby shop will carry that paint it\'s made by Testor\'s so it should be common.
