Hi all,

Just bought a new 2016 Mazda3 GS Sport for my wife. Glad to see a Canada-themed forum with so many knowledgeable members.

With my wife driving only 9,000 km per year it's annoying that Mazda insists on fresh synthetic oil and filter every 4 months. Fifty bucks' worth of Castrol French Perfume and oil filter every 3000 km... yeesh. I've seen helicopters that require less maintenance than this :P

Anyway as a DIYer I look forward to reading your tips and eventually contributing a few of my own.

Cheers,
Don

Welcome! I can tell you from experience that my helicopters require much more maintenance than $50 every 4 months!

Welcome Don67

Yeah like an oil change every 50 hours or 4 months lol.

Contamination is the main reason they want us changing the oil out every 4 months no matter the mileage.

I agree that contamination is a concern with low-mileage, short trip vehicles.

FYI I emailed Mazda Canada and they said that twice-a-year oil changes would not jeopardize the engine warranty given the light mileage.

Congratulations Don on purchasing your wife an amazing car. Every 4 months or 8000 km I think is what you meant to say? Rumor has it there going to go to 6 months 8000 km. I wont confirm or deny this. Certain Mazda dealerships here in Ottawa will take care of your wife and your needs. I've seen somethings be covered by dealers, ie warranty work out of the warranty period. I don't suggest bending mazdas 4 months 8000 km regular maintenance( guarantee).I have seen tons of customers who only come once a year( the lucky retired travlers) Who have got there warranty work covered... this I can't confirm was done where I work but was at one of the others Mazda here in Ottawa.Welcome again to the mazda family and tm3 community.
