View Full Version : Are there any JDM owners here?
Wondering if anyone on here owns a jdm vehicle. I've been pondering the idea for a while now but there are many questions I still have.
Good importers..?
Insurance..?
Getting registration etc
Maintenance and acquiring parts
And mainly. Is it worth it?
I actually have been considering Toyota caldina. I relatively unknown car with an incredible drivetrain. Nothing to look at but a total sleeper and functional car.

Yes, I have an FD RX7.
I imported it myself, it was hell.
Insurance will generally kill you unless you work in the industry (which I do).
The importing process led to my registration.
Parts aren't a problem as the car was sold my Mazda in North America.
Was it worth it?
For me: Yes, but *only* because I can swing the insurance and the deal I got on the car itself.
If I didn't work in the industry, I would not do this again.

Did you go with bad arthritis in your right hand so you can't shift very easily? ;)

i've toyed with the idea of getting a RHD car, but the insurance is what scares me.
I don't want any hassle, or skirt the system to avoid having to pay outrageous rates and I fear that the rules might change in the future leaving me with a car I can't drive.
For a non-DD car that will spend most of the time in the garage, not sure I want the headache.
I'm going to stick to my original plan of getting a US classic car, and get the required policy.
(not sure if classic car will cover a vintage JDM car? A 70's Sunny would be nice lol)
